Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) said on Sunday that COVID-19 situation in the state is “dire,” with a record number of hospitalizations amid soaring cases.
“We are setting case records. We have a record number of Kentuckians in the hospital battling COVID in the ICU, battling for their lives. We have a record number of families that are praying for their loved one who is on a ventilator, needing that assistance to breathe,” Beshear said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
Beshear was dealt a blow last month when the Kentucky Supreme Court allowed several pieces of legislation limiting his COVID-19 emergency powers to go into effect. Beshear said the court and legislature limited his ability to impose some COVID-19 restrictions such as masking.
The state is seeing a surge of COVID-19 cases, reporting more than 5,000 cases on Friday. Cases were as low as in the double digits in June, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University, only 49 percent of the state's population is fully vaccinated, making efforts to manage the spread of COVID-19 amid a highly contagious delta variant even more difficult.

The only reason DeSantis might win over Trump is because the media has yet to totally destroy him. Give them time if it appears that he might be the candidate.

I think Bear Shear is suffering from hyperbowl, a tendency to exaggerate to an absurd level, for political purposes. Is it this bad... so bad that we adopt the same old lockdown mask fear regime, that actually made things very much worse in states where is was authoritarianly imposed? Good idea, make things worse!
He is a better governor than he was congressman... He voted voted for a lot of bad stuff.

I know some think DeSantis is the way to go, but he’d have
to be awfully good to beat Trump at handling the press.

Amid the hysterical media running non-stop stories of National Guard truck convoys shipping the dead form large hospitals to morgues, we had televised coverage of football games across the South Saturday night, showing hundreds of thousands of football fans packing stadiums, where...gasp...gasp...no one was wearing a face mask.
In a few weeks, expect the death number to rise into the millions.
It looks like these are weekly numbers, so 610 new cases per 100,000 population and 34 new hospital admissions per 100 hospital beds.
