Amid the ruins of Bucharest in Romania, a group of partisans gathered in secret — a battle-hardened, sinewy crew who had made a daring escape through sewers from the Vilna Ghetto in Vilnius, Lithuania, then spent two years attacking German forces from the forests of Eastern Europe. This would be a Passover celebration like no other.

The audacious plan they hatched that night would stay secret for decades.

A question! How did they know the number of six million if this was before or right at the time any camps were liberated and before the Nuremberg trial?

/actually, pretty sure just like anything else that gets turned into a movie or book, they tend to play loosey-goosey with the facts for dramatic effect.

So no, they probably didn’t know a number at that particular time, other than that it was a BIG number.

I’m sure that David Irving (or Ernst Zündel if he was still alive), would be all over this like stink on rotten meat, just to get themselves some more press...

But, as normal, I did not read the article. Daily Mail tires me out trying to get through it. Never mind sometimes it’s too sensationalist.

So to avenge the murder of innocents, they planned to murder innocents. Sorry, but that doesn’t quite click with me.

Instead they should have gone after those Nazis who served pathetically small terms for their crimes - monsters who were sentenced to life, then released after a few years for “health reasons”.

Just like of the British Press run by the upper-class twits, the Daily Fail has proved itself to be full of the same upper-class twit flavour of Anti-Semitism that a lot of Brits have. Very much pro-Palestine and Anti-Israel.

They like to stir that particular cauldron once in a while. If it’s not Israel-Bashing, it’s the more ‘subtle’ approach of writing yet another story about the Rothschild Family, for example...

There is an EXCELLENT related show on Netflix right now titled “The Defeated” about a NYC cop in Berlin in late 1945 or 1946. It is extremely fascinating show that weaves together multiple themes: a German organized crime leader, the NYC cop, his psychotic American brother bent on revenge on Nazis; the difficulties of standing up a new police department in devastated Berlin; the Jewish Nokmim and their revenge plot; the politics of the Russians, Americans, Brits, and French in divided Berlin; brutal Soviet treatment of political prisoners; crooked officials flying Nazis out of Berlin on unauthorized flights in exchange for big payoffs; and a lot more.

It is shot in a film-noir style and is quite gripping. It is full of plots and subplots masterfully woven together into a great spy story with the NYC cop working to unravel it all. Highly recommended.
