Each COVID-19 Surge Poses a Risk for Healthcare Workers: PTSD
Newsmax ^ | 9/5/21 | unknown

Nurse Chris Prott's knees jump, his heart races, his mouth goes dry and his mind floods with dark memories when he talks about working in the Milwaukee VA Medical Center's intensive care unit (ICU) during pandemic surges.

Prott shares a struggle common to many of the military veterans for whom he has cared for years: symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Prott was among a half dozen ICU staffers who told Reuters of symptoms such as waking from nightmares bathed in sweat; flashbacks to dying patients during the pandemic's fear-filled early days; flaring anger; and panic at the sound of medical alarms.

Those whose symptoms last longer than one month and are severe enough to interfere with daily life can be diagnosed with PTSD. The surging Delta variant is heaping on fresh trauma as the United States and other nations begin to study PTSD in health workers. Data already showed that U.S. health workers were in crisis before COVID-19.

While PTSD is associated with combat, it can arise among civilians after natural disasters, abuse or other trauma. Health workers can be reluctant to equate their experience with that of returning soldiers. "I feel like a schmuck calling it PTSD," Prott said. "It took me a long time to be able to talk to somebody because I see guys with real PTSD. What I've got going on, it's nothing in comparison, so you feel guilty for thinking that." Psychiatrist Dr. Bessel van der Kolk knows better. "On the surface, a nurse at your local hospital will not look like a guy coming back from Afghanistan," said the author of "The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma." "But underneath it all, we have these core neurobiology-determined functions that are the same."

It can be very traumatic watching patient after patient die and there is nothing you can do.

I wonder what they keep teaching the healthcare workers day after day.

But, they can do something. They can give monoclonal antibodies and the other researched items from c19early.com.

What about cancer ward or burn unit nurses? Wouldn’t PTSD be prevalent among them, as well? I’ve always thought those departments would be extremely stressful to work in.

Get the jab or die. Or get fired. Apparently the big Corp med facilities don’t “need” them THAT bad.

Another aspect I witnessed this week: Healthcare workers are on the verge of quitting.

Having to be masked the entire day, and now threatened with job loss unless they submit to getting a shot(s). Nurses and staff are tired of it.

After talking to a few, I asked - “If you were 19, and faced with the very real prospect of wearing a mask your entire working career, would you choose healthcare?

No one said yes. Would you?

“It can be very traumatic watching patient after patient die and there is nothing you can do.”

Given that information, I’d think a very high percentage of health workers would be vaccinated. But that’s not the case.

Patient after patient dies every day in hospitals.

It is called Life. It is dangerous. Trying to manufacture drama and hysteria about this is irresponsible and childish.

Even as someone who has worked with HAZMAT in the past, I am hesitant to say yes.

I don’t know but you could also add all those mangled and mutilated car crash victims too.

Most seasoned nurses and medical staff are well aware of dying patients.....those who work in Trauma units all the more for they see it every day. They have learned how to cope. But I will add in my understanding that all are affected when they see child abuse cases come in....none affects hospital staff as much as these.

For the inexperienced staff and nurses it will be what they signed on for....just need to adapt to the environment and do their job...they will learn how to suck it up and keep moving over time. Others will learn they aren’t up for the challenges and drop out.

My understanding is monoc. Only works early for rather healthy patients…high O2.

So, anyone in COVID units is probably past that point.

Due to a person in our family needing hospitalization and rehab, have had a opportunity to question several nurses about the clot-shot.

Those who are astute know that the jab is experimental and will not take it. They will quit rather than take the shot.

They have also indicated, not said out lout that the patients they are dealing with are vaccinated.

It’s odd there is so little information (and nothing recent) about medical workers being vaccinated. Here’s the most recent article I could find:

Nearly 1,500 health systems across the United States ...
https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/09/health/us-hospitals...
Aug 09, 2021 · At that time, roughly 60% of the system’s employees reported being vaccinated. Hospital leaders are hosting weekly town halls to answer clinic workers’ vaccine questions or try …

You’d think 95% of health workers would be vaccinated. But no. Looks like their rate of vaccination is similar to that of the general population.

Is it a coincidence that the China virus’ new strain started when the vax started being pushed into people? I don’t believe in coincidences!

Is it the vaccine delivering the new strain(s)?

Imagine how they will feel when they find out that there are therapeutics stifled by the government and medical community, that could have kept many of those people out of the hospital.

But not in this quantity. Watching 3-5 people die a day with little or no victories is demoralizing. The ongoing battle of those who don’t know and preach so called cures that do little makes it worse because we will get to see those whom are mislead

It gets tiring when you get called a murderer snd a hack by people who have literally no idea what they are talking about. But Then we get called elitist when we try to educate

The fact is not everyone who can read google is an expert. Not everyone who can cut and paste charts with no context knows that they are saying. And they are hurting people.

So yes. It sucks. But we go back to work everyday. Try to heal the Sick and comfort the dying. It is worse than it has been in a long time. And the drain is real.
