Wife of COVID-19 patient says husband's condition has improved since Ivermectin treatment; hospital disagrees

Jeffrey Smith, 51, of Fairfield Township, has been on a ventilator at UC West Chester Hospital for 34 days battling COVID-19. While the father of three fights for his life, his wife, Julie Smith, has taken the battle to court.

At the center of it all, the controversial drug, Ivermectin.

"I know from personal experience in a number of cases that people have gone home from the hospital after Ivermectin when they were told -- the family was told -- that you should consider pulling life support," said Ralph Lorigo, Julie Smith's attorney. "No one advocates that you go to Tractor Supply and get your Ivermectin. No one advocates that on my side. What they advocate is you seek out a doctor who understands the situation,"

Lorigo said that is what Julie Smith did when she got a prescription from Dr. Fred Wagshul, a pulmonologist in Centerville.

Julie Smith also got a temporary court order which forced doctors at UC West Chester to administer the drug.

That order is good for 14 days. Friday was day 11.

Both sides headed back in court this week. Julie Smith wants doctors at UC West Chester to continue treating her husband with Ivermectin. Doctors at the hospital oppose the treatment.

"Mr. Smith was on death's door before he received Ivermectin. Now, we have stability. Now, we have the vent setting at 50 percent," Lorigo said.

I wasn’t on a ventilator, but I was on high-volume oxygen at 100% at maximum flow.

I took me three weeks to get off the high-volume oxygen, and then another week to get off continuous oxygen.

Reducing 30% from 100% to 70% was considered modest, but real and discernible progress by my doctors. That drop took about two weeks.

“My mom has a legal DNR on the front of her fridge. We have copies of it if she is admitted to hospital. How does this apply to COVID? When they want to intubate patients??”

If she is transported from home and EMS is shown a valid DNR, then we would make her comfortable (give her O2 by mask etc) and transport to the hospital. No CPR, ET tube...

Depending on her medical conditions you need to decide in advance if you even want to call EMS in the first place.

Even with a valid DNR, any family member can verbally revoke it.

some people use some kind of diluted hydrogen peroxide in a nebulizer. no idea if it is really safe.

If I'd start coming down with any kind of respiratory infection, I'd breathe in vapors of oregano essential oil. I'm pretty sure it has antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties.

A few years ago I started coming down with a respiratory issue that felt like it was going to be a real bad one. I was headachy, fatigued, congested, and had to sit up in bed and cough, cough, cough to try to loosen the phlegm. I took a couple of aspirins and a swig of Robitussin DM. Then I put three or four drops of oregano essential oil on a scrap of paper towel every few hours, with the piece of paper towel hung in front of a small fan to disperse the vapors throughout my bedroom. The logic was to get the potential cure down to where the infection seemed to be by breathing in the vapors and getting them down into my bronchial tubes and lungs. Within 18 hours I was 100% symptom free. To make sure it was completely whipped, I kept the paper towel replenished with oregano oil for a couple of days after the symptoms were gone.

If I'd start coming down with something I thought might be Covid, I'd probably also put a little oregano oil on a piece of cloth that I could hold a little closer to my face, in order to get a more concentrated dose of the medicinal effects. It's pretty potent though, so I wouldn't ever hold the cloth right up by my face. A couple or three feet away would be close enough.

Exactly. If used as prescribed, it can’t hurt.

I am having to see many Doctors across disciplines as we try to figure some things out.

I am amazed at their lack of knowledge. I have started carrying scientific studies with me so that when I ask a question..and they look at me like I am an idiot and that I couldn’t possibly know what I am talking about....I whip them out and say this does exist.

Their lack of knowledge on what to do with abnormal test results is astounding. I had one specialist say to me “I don’t normally order that test”. Be that as it may...the test was ordered..it’s abnormal..WTF does it mean and what is causing it?

And when one wont order something I move on until I find one that will order it...like with an MRI. I even have the algorithms from other hospitals on what protocol is for XYZ issue and by golly I whip it out and use it when I ask questions.

I am disgusted by the whole damn process. Thank goodness I at least have objective evidence pointing to problems because if all I had was me saying I don’t feel good I would get no where.

Which is due to the ventilator no doubt.

Thanks.

I saw my new pulmonologist this week for lingering lung issues. He was the pulmonologist who saw me in the hospital. He told me he was a little surprised I made it.

But what REALLY almost did me in was the food. 25 days of it. They had a boneless, skinless chicken breast that I’m pretty sure violated a Geneva Convention.

Why are they still putting people on ventilators? I thought they realized that that wasn’t appropriate treatment over a year ago.

He no longer has an active COVID-19 infection but continues to suffer from “severe acute respiratory distress syndrome,” UC Health said in a court filing Sept. 2.

I find it absolutely incredible how many people are willing to have someone die to get their way. The hospital does not want him to get better.

After my wife got out of a coma [ICU, intubated], I watched over her in the recovery wing. This was about ten years ago.

She wasn't getting better after a couple of weeks.

Eventually, I figured out they were inadvertently doing sleep deprivation on her [waking her every four hours to do tests and other garbage].

I knew this because I had run a sleep-deprivation experiment on my own self in my 20s, and recognized the similar symptoms.

They were preparing to milk the cow by sending her to a high-dollar med facility for "further evaluation".

They were into her Cadillac med insurance for 300K already.

I put a stop to it by kicking them out of the room and only allowing them in every 8 to 10 hours.

I had to growl off a minion at three in the morning on the first night.

I’m fed up too RummyChick. My Hubby has no immune system (transplant) and if he got it it’s curtains for him. He’s already got the 2 Pfizer and the booster. I got the 2 Pfizer and haven’t had the booster yet. I have upcoming surgery and I’m going to ask the surgeons PA on the 17th if I should get the booster so close to my surgery. I’ve got problems with that and the sad thing is I wouldn’t know whether to take his advice to heart.

I seriously doubt it is any better than Ivermectin. The same, perhaps, but not better.
