Democrats Tuck Female Draft Into Defense Bill
Washington Free Beacon ^ | 09/02/2021 | Jack Beyrer

The Pentagon will have to start drafting women in order to receive funding after House Democrats amended the defense budget. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D., Pa.) put forward a measure on Wednesday to require all women over the age of 18 to register for selective service. Houlahan said her policy would best draw on the "talents of our entire nation." Only one in three women, however, support adding women to the draft, according to an Ipsos poll. Republicans pilloried the legislation. Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R., Mo.), a House Armed Services Committee member, lampooned the prospect that millions of America’s daughters could be put needlessly in the line of fire.

"I feel confident that in an emergency that the women of this country would step up and volunteer as needed," Hartzler said. "It seems like this is a solution in search of a problem. … We don't need to draft women in order for women to have equality in this nation."

Female participation in the military has steadily increased since 2004, rising to 17 percent in 2018. A larger percentage of women in military service Are Commissioned as officers than men. Critics say conscription should focus on fielding the most effective fighting force, rather than gender ideology. Terry Schilling, the president of the American Principles Project, which led a campaign against the measure, told the Washington Free Beacon the decision could have a crippling effect on lawmakers who passed the bill.

I served. Joined when I was 17 summer after HS, had my 18th birthday in Basic Training. Everyone that is physically and mentally able SHOULD serve their country. I wouldn’t mind some sort of conscription between high school and college.

I think it might help with a lot of our social problems and put kids on a better future track. And none of the guys here EVER complain about the female Israeli soldiers. ;)

HOWEVER - today’s United States Army is not the one *I* served in, that’s for sure. :(

Shouldn’t there be an open and national discussion on a major change such as this? Nope. It gets “tucked” into the defense bill.

Honest to God, get these idiots in Congress sent home to stay there most of the year. Make them actually work for a living instead of skulking around thinking up more stupid ass junk bills and demonic laws to foist on the population while exempting themselves from. Are all those jackarses forced to get vaccinated? If they are, I want to watch to make sure the aren’t lying like usual.

The reason why countries did not draft women is they are responsible for the continuation of society (contrary to common belief women have children, not men). That is not to say they cannot serve if they so choose, but it should be optional.

Given the hard left policies being pushed is it surprising that the continuation of American society is being put on the chopping block?

Until they start drafting illegal aliens and shipping them off to wars on foreign soil, the bureaucrats are nothing but hypocrites.

Do we believe Israeli women are worse of, or better off, for having been in the military?

U.S. military draft ends, Jan. 27, 1973

By ANDREW GLASS

01/27/2012 12:58 PM EST Updated 01/27/2012 04:40 PM EST

On the day in 1973, as the Vietnam War drew to a close, the Selective Service announced that there would be no further draft calls. The decision came several months after President Richard M. Nixon had easily won reelection, running against Democratic Sen. George McGovern of South Dakota, an outspoken opponent of the war.

In the 1968 presidential campaign, Nixon had promised to end the draft. During his time out of office, the GOP nominee had become interested in the prospect of an all-volunteer force. Nixon was influenced by Martin Anderson, an associate professor at Columbia University.

Nixon thought ending the draft could be an effective political weapon against the burgeoning anti-war movement. He believed middle-class youths would lose interest in protesting the war once it became clear that they would not have to fight, and possibly die, in Vietnam.

While there was no opposition to an all-volunteer military in the Defense Department or Congress, Nixon took no immediate action toward ending the draft in the early years of his presidency. Rather, the president named a commission headed by Thomas Gates Jr., a former secretary of defense in the Eisenhower administration, to examine the issue.

Gates initially opposed the all-volunteer army idea, but changed his mind as the 15-member panel did its work. The commission issued its report in February 1970. It found adequate military strength could be maintained without conscription.

The draft law was due to expire at the end of June 1971. But Nixon decided it needed to continue and asked Congress to approve a two-year extension. In March 1973, 1974 and 1975, the Selective Service assigned draft priority numbers for all men born in 1954, 1955 and 1956, in case the draft was extended — but it never was.

If the GOP were smart they could promise to repeal this. It would be a good wedge issue. Of course big if.

“Do we believe Israeli women are worse of, or better off, for having been in the military?”

Early in their history women fought, but the Israelis determined that it was a mistake for various reasons, and today women have very restricted roles in the military. No combat.

The military will have trouble finding enough people when 98% of the population will not serve because it means serving alongside of the homosexual.

Most of the females in the idf are in support units. That seems a obvious place for them.
