Mexico president says containing migrants not enough

HUIXTLA, Mexico (AP) — Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed frustration with a strategy of containing migrants in the south on Thursday and said he would write to U.S. President Joe Biden to insist that country contribute to his favorite development projects in the region.

The Biden administration has expressed a willingness to address the root causes of migration, especially from Central America. Biden placed Vice President Kamala Harris in charge of the effort and she has visited Mexico and Guatemala to gather information.

But López Obrador has suggested the U.S. fund his tree planting and youth employment programs, without much success. On Thursday, he said that with funding, the two programs could create 330,000 jobs within six months in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

While unlikely to cease efforts to slow migrants, Mexico could seek to pressure the Biden administration for more assistance.

Leave it to the leader of Mexico to preach to other nations
about treating their citizens better, or other nations to
willingly fund any shortfall in poorer nations.

Half the populace in the U. S. not only has to support the
other half who refuses to work, but are expected to pay for
the poor in every other nation on the planet.

“a willingness to address the root causes of migration”

I think more about the root effects of migration to the degree that it’s occurring — turning us into a 3rd world country. Ruining us.

Uh huh. And the best way to “address the root causes of migration” is world socialism. From each - that’s us - according to their ability to each - that’s them - according to their need. That didn’t even work for the Soviets.

Hey Manny,I got a better idea. Mexico pays a fair share of the cost of a wall on the US-Mexico border (remember that will help keep out all those guns that you complain are pouring in from the US side too) and when it is complete then the US will be willing to discuss regional development funding.

You could even tax all those gringo dollars that get transferred back to Mexico by your citizens who we so kindly allow to work in our country as the way to pay for your fair share of the cost.

Mexican President:
And get that loudmouth Border Czar Kamala to leave us alone down here. She’s phoning us and visiting twice a week and just dropping in and then coming down again to see how things are———all the time. We’re sick of her down here.

Should have kept that country.

Might have been a pain in the ass, but at least we could have managed it.

Should have kept Cuba also.

“Has there ever been an Hispanic nation anywhere that has not been overrun with corruption while at the same time enthusiastically living under the thumb of the strongman, caudillo, alcalde.”

James Michener pointed out that every former Spanish colony learned corruption from the colonial government, and is corrupt to this day.

I haven’t been able to locate any exceptions.
