AU.S. drone strike against the Islamic State killed 10 civilians in Kabul, some of whom were children, according to news reports.
The Washington Post reported early Monday morning that a single extended family was the victims of a nearby strike that occurred as the family was returning to their home Sunday afternoon.
"Bodies were covered in blood and shrapnel, and some of the dead children were still inside the car," a neighbor told the outlet.
U.S. Central Command says the strike targeted an Islamic State vehicle bomb that posed an "imminent" threat to the Kabul airport. "We are aware of reports of civilian casualties following our strike on a vehicle in Kabul. It is unclear what may have happened, and we are investigating further. We would be deeply saddened by any potential loss of innocent life," said Central Command in a statement.
Family members gathered to mourn Sunday night, some reportedly sobbing into the early morning hours. Of the 10 civilians killed, eight were aged 18 or younger.
This is the second U.S. drone strike carried out in response to a suicide bombing and gunfire attack that took place outside the Kabul airport on Thursday. The attack killed 170 Afghan civilians, and 13 members of the U.S. armed forces.
During the Pentagon briefing today, Alex somebody asked via telephone about photo interpretation that an expert said secondaries unlikely as there wasn’t the damage one would expect. No answer other than continuing to assess.
The “secondary explosion” story is weak. There was little massive damage to nearby buildings. It more likely the “secondary explosion” was the gas tank of the car.
They are stalling the rollout of the story hoping it fades away. Based on everything so far, all we’ve gotten from the admin is lies.
Sweet ratio...
My guess is that the story of civilian children killed is an invention of the Taliban, though I wouldn’t put it past them to murder a few, just to make “good” propaganda pictures.
Hi @JakeSullivan46! Did the Taliban provide the target data for your Kabul strike today that wiped out an interpreter and his entire family?β Jack Posobiec πΊπΈ (@JackPosobiec) August 30, 2021
This is propaganda to sway people to sympathize with the taliban. I believe NOTHING that comes out of the White House.
biden making friends all over the world. Guess who pays the bill when they retaliate.
We let Bagram go, and let these people grab out belt buckles in Kabul in the middle of a massive civilian population.
One of one thousand reasons why leaving Bagram should be considered a court martial level failing.
Beware of Taliban reports of innocent babies being blown up. It may or may not have happened, but just like the Gulf War “baby formula factory” that was blown up, it could all be staged to garner international sympathy for the Taliban.
That was exactly what I was thinking. We probably got the data from the Taliban, and they knew perfectly well what they were sending us to.
Yup. We’re the bad guys.
Sounds like the US gov is operating as a terrorist org
I find it humorous that there are Islamic state vehicles. Does that imply their are Taliban and Al-Qaeda vehicles? (I do know there are former US military vehicles.) These guys switch sides constantly based on their purposes. Do not buy into the narrative that ISIS/Taliban/Al-Qaeda et.al, are different. There is a common denominator and it should never have been called the Religion of Peace.
What is the collateral damage from say a car bomb? Or a suicide vest?
If they were relying on the same intelligence (or lack thereof) that got us into this mess in the first place, this should come as no surprise.
To a Muslim, there is no “collateral damage”.
It’s ALL good.....................
Islam is a lot like the Democrat Party. It’s made up of ‘factions’, each with its own purposes and goals. And each wants power all to itself. Where necessary to achieve those goals, they cooperate. When it’s no longer necessary they start killing each other. Just like Somalia....................
