I speculate it traces to Obama somehow. He has a major need to have America work cooperatively with Islamic types, especially when there’s an appeasing or supplicating aspect to it. By giving the Taliban that list (assuming it’s true that we did) we are giving them undeserved trust from a position of weakness, which scratches all of Obama’s itches. I also wonder if there may be a grand agreement in the offing somehow, where a deal is struck that allows Gitmo to be emptied into Afghanistan. I think Obama has been irked at not being able to close down Gitmo, but here maybe is a chance for him to do it in his third term. All very speculative and far fetched of course but it’s just some things that come to mind.
I guess the lists have addresses on them, and other personal information. So when they’re discovered in Kabul and claim to be Canadian, the Taliban will have our ‘list’, know they are lying, and then punish them in accordance with the Koran (or at least their version of it).
