White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has just put out this statement following Joe Biden's meeting with G7 leaders earlier today.
"The President conveyed that our mission in Kabul will end based on the achievement of our objectives," it begins.
Biden, she says, also "confirmed we are currently on pace to finish by August 31".
He provided world leaders with an "update on progress in evacuating Americans who want to come home, third-country nationals, and Afghans who were our allies during the war."
Psaki says the president made clear that "with each day of operations on the ground, we have added risk to our troops", including security threats from an Islamic State affiliate, and that finishing the mission by 31 August "depends on continued coordination with the Taliban, including continued access for evacuees to the airport".
She concludes that Biden has asked US diplomats and military generals to establish "contingency plans to adjust the timeline should that become necessary".

I can’t believe this! Biden starts his hours-late statement on Afghanistan talking about his ‘build back better’ agenda...
That’s because the agreement the CIA worked out allows them to keep Afghanis and let the Americans get out…because we’ve paid the ransom.
They wanted the money - the objective in any Muslim taking of hostages, obviously - and Biden wanted to save face. I wonder how much this has cost us? And I doubt that they took scrip - gold or negotiable instruments only, they’re crazy but not dumb.

My thought is that on August 31st when the last plane leaves, they’ll say all the stranded Americans wanted to stay in Afghanistan.
I thought the exact same thing.
These people are scum
Without a doubt.
After listening to Jen Snarky today, I thought she would blame stranded Americans for their failure to ‘register’ in country or ‘deregister’ on leaving.
And there are stories all over the place about former military, journalists, etc., receiving pleading messages from former colleagues in Afghanistan - and Snarky says ‘send us their phone numbers and emails’.
The United States just suffered the GREATEST military defeat of our LIFETIMES, far worse than in Vietnam, because North Vietnam just wanted us out, but had no intention of carrying the war to our shores, in a messianic crusade. And we did not leave THOUSANDS of Americans behind in Vietnam, as Benedict Biden has done in Afghanistan. Benedict will not be able to stop their infiltration amongst the refugees, or across our open southern border.
