I’ve been told that some of the C-17 pilots out of Memphis ANG are being investigated for overweight takeoffs. I’ll dig more when I get a chance.
What a bunch of B...S...! Commercial or military aircraft don't need refueling capability to get this job done. As a C-141 jock with over 5,000 hrs from 1969-1977. I can tell you personally this is BS. They stretched (meaning refueling capability) the C-141. Entirely unnecessary because we were already flying at the crews maximum Air Force endurance levels.

MAC hasn't been command since 1993.
Why would one need midair fueling. The 777 ,787, 747, A340, A350, A330 all have the legs to leave Kabul and make it western Europe, Australia , East Asia, and with the exception of the A330 every other of those planes can reach the USA over the pole great circle route. Midair is totally unneeded with modern wide body long haul commercial craft. The 777 and the 787 are both capable of traving to the antipodial point half way around the planet from where they started from flying in either direction. The A350 is capable with LR tanks of this feat as well.
Looks like I’m out of date a little...lol... is there a separate airlift command anymore
