DAVENPORT, Fla. — By June, Meli Feliciano’s family appeared to have finally found a measure of stability after being jolted by the economic devastation of the coronavirus pandemic. Her husband had secured a good job in construction, and she was receiving hundreds of dollars in weekly federal and state unemployment aid, giving her some breathing room while she submitted job applications each week. She kept records of it all in a pink binder that her daughter had once used in kindergarten.
That’s when calamity struck.
Her husband fell ill, temporarily wiping out his income. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) slashed her jobless aid by more than half to $197 per week, arguing that the federal boost to unemployment insurance was keeping people like Feliciano from getting back to work. The bill for her daughter’s college tuition and textbooks is due soon, nearly $1,000 that the family doesn’t have. And just as her husband was cleared to go back to work in August, her stepson Julian tested positive for the coronavirus, requiring the household to isolate for two weeks.
Last year, when their jobless aid briefly lapsed, the couple sold one of their cars to get by. But now they are running out of options. Do they draw further on the generosity of neighbors? Sacrifice tuition? Delay paying rent as long as possible?
“When you’re stressed as a parent, you don’t want it to show, but sometimes it shows,” said Feliciano, 42. “It’s a different issue going on every day. You just take it day by day and do the best you can.”

Haven’t missed a day of work since the pandemic started. I understand it might be difficult for people with young kids and no schools but at some point you need to go back to work

Total massive hysteria. I did a google search for COVID death rate. Where I live in Pennsylvania, it show that Lehigh County has 1.27 million cases and 875 deaths.
That is a survival rate of 99.8%. The regular flu has a survival rate of 99.9%. So we are shutting down society for a .01% difference between COVID and regular influenza.

I missed two days in January/February of 2020 when I had it before it had a name. My wife and I survived it without doctor visits or drugs, and we are both in our sixties. Good thing we didn’t know how dangerous it was or we might have run to a hospital so they could hook us up to ventilators and kill us.
Might be relevant if he were one of the pussy-tyrants that decrees everyone (except the elite) stay indoors for 30 days if someone sneezes, but he's rational and doesn't do that, so.....not seeing the problem....

“Terrifying” new wave...oh the humanity!!!
We were in Florida last month- we own condo’s in Cocoa Beach. For some reason we noticed signs on most of the restaurants read “closed Tuesday.” Couldn’t figure out what was going on.
We went to one of our favorite restaurants on A1A and my wife asked the hostess “why are the restaurants closed Tuesday?”
The hostess replied- “we can’t get enough people to work. Its more beneficial for people to stay home and collect unemployment and covid payments than to actually work. We just don’t have enough people to staff the restaurant.”
A week later my daughter and I went in Disney World. We had breakfast at the California Grill, which sits atop the Contemporary Hotel and offers magnificent views of the Magic Kingdom and surrounding area. One of the more exclusive restaurants on the property. It was impossible to get a table but i finally got a reservation.
To my surprise the restaurant was 60% empty for breakfast when we were seated. I asked the waiter why it was so hard to get a table when more than half the tables were empty. His response? “We only reserve tables based on the number of waiters we can get here to work.” This is not a mom and pop restaurant- it’s Disney World.
