Lockheed Martin is closing its Sikorsky helicopter plant in Chester County. The Coatesville plant will close in March next year.
Two hundred and forty employees are expected to lose their jobs.
The company had intended to close it in 2019. However, it stayed open after pressure from then-President Donald Trump and other Pennsylvania elected officials.
Chester County commissioners say they will focus on supporting employees, and coming up with plans for the 22-acre site.
The company blames a downturn in the commercial helicopter sector.
In a statement, it said: “We were unable to secure enough additional work to sustain operations.”
Seems like we’ll need more of these for evacuations around the world.
“The company had intended to close it in 2019. However, it stayed open after pressure from then-President Donald Trump and other Pennsylvania elected officials.”
Good grief. A company staying open a few more years is Donald Trumps ‘fault’. These people are warped beyond repair.
My satirical reverie...
This is the new era of peace dividends like when Reagan stared down the Russians. Like the New Summer of Love in the cities where we can walk again casually in safety even in Chicago and NYC, Biden & Harris have conflicts under such control that we are greatly winding down a lot of the need for weapons and transportation for war.
That always happens when Dems win an election. The swords are being beaten into ploughshares. The spears are being made into pruning hooks as we speak. Nation will not take up arms against nation and neither will they learn war any more. Peace.
Wait, they’re coming to give me more pills to take but I don’t need them, I am of sound mind....
PA Ping!
Biden could care less.
Maybe they can keep it open for the Taliban!
China going to build them?
“ Two hundred and forty employees are expected to lose their jobs.”
I love how they use this phrasing. They are shutting down the plant. I doubt the company is going to continue paying these people to show up in the parking lot.
There’s always a question about whether the company will offer transfers to other locations.
This is even better, now we get to pay for a new design helicopter! Cha - Ching, Cha - Ching
Of course the pilot wore his hat—he’s outside.
Union save masters, most likely.
No. Word then was that Trump was trying to keep it open. No Trump, plant closes.
“The Coatesville plant has been home to projects such as completion work for Sikorsky’s S-92 and S-76D helicopter, the VH-92 aircraft that is more commonly known as Marine One and upgrades to Canada’s Maritime Helicopter Program. Lockheed Martin said that it will consolidate the work being done at the plant into other company locations. “
