London (CNN)When US President Joe Biden finally broke his silence on the chaos unfolding in Afghanistan, European allies who'd had high hopes for a reset in the transatlantic alliance were left dismayed.

Their disappointment was not at the contents of Biden's address, but the America First optics of the leader of the free world washing his hands of a global problem. ...

...From London to Paris, Brussels to Berlin, the sudden fall of Kabul shone a light on Europe's limited diplomatic heft, military capacity, and political stability. Diplomats and officials all over the continent have privately expressed their sorrow that this is where we are: If the US says it's over, it's over....

I guess so. As was said yesterday, the US is the one dropping 90% of munitions and spending billions of dollars...while having to beg Europe to pony up to NATO

Europe, be careful what you wish for. It’s too late now.

SUCKAHS!

The 2020's are shaping up to be the 1930's all over again. We all know how that went. Same players, but now in different roles. Something wicked this way comes.

I totally agree, Europe has relied upon US military support for too long. Europe now has to pay its own way.

The EU has no real serious plan to create any form of fighting force - and they struggle to get countries to commit.

The UK is the only country with any real sizeable military - and even then it is stretched.

The real threat to stability in Europe now seems to be the millions of refugees getting ready to walk into Western Europe in search of a new future.

Yeah, because everybody knows abandoning 15k behind enemy lines is totally “America First”.

This guy is smoking his shoelaces to come up with this angle. This is an “America Last” operation start to finish.

Looks like they’ve finally called it a day on Dementia Joe.

It was so absurdly offensive when Dementia J was going around declaring, “America is back” ... as if the country had been terribly weakened during the Trump administration. Everyone in the world was supposed to ignore and forget the stunning successes of the Trump administration not only economically also in terms of foreign policy.

Now it’s bitter reality for the Euro trash. And lo’ and behold, the orange boor from Queens might not have been so bad after all.

The US is the one dropping 90% of munitions and spending billions of dollars...while having to beg Europe to pony up to NATO

This would be an excellent point - except that every few years the US (under Clinton, then Obama, then Biden) connives to pass those billions of dollars worth of munitions and tier 1 equipment directly to crazy islamics.

In both Clinton and Obama's case that firepower was even used directly on the side of the islamic cause (Baltics, Syria). Will we get to see Biden - or Harris - ordering the same thing?

Anyway: fully agree that this is a teachable moment for Europe. They need to grow a proper defence - and a network of non-US alliances AND their own satellites - because every ~eight years or so the World's SuperPower gets a (D) after its name and grows treacherous.

they participated in the theft of the last election... they broke it, they bought it! I don’t care how sour those grapes taste! They “summoned the wind”, and now “reap the whirlwind”.

Not so much fun when America is just another s hole nation, is it. But at least the orange menace has been vanquished and trannies run the military.
