Federal judge reverses Trump environmental approval for major Alaska oil project

A federal judge has reversed the Trump administration’s environmental approval for ConocoPhillips’ multibillion-dollar proposed Willow development on Alaska’s North Slope, throwing a significant roadblock in front of a project seen by analysts as a needed boost to the state’s flagging oil industry and tax revenue.

U.S. District Court Judge Sharon Gleason, in a 110-page ruling on two related lawsuits Wednesday, said the Trump administration’s approval of the project under the National Environmental Policy Act was flawed because it failed to thoroughly analyze potential greenhouse gas pollution, and didn’t sufficiently consider legal protections for Teshekpuk Lake, an important subsistence area on the North Slope.

The ruling by Gleason, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, sets aside the project’s approval by the Bureau of Land Management. It also vacates a formal opinion by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that said the project was unlikely to jeopardize polar bears’ continued existence and unlikely to harm their critical habitat.

The decision, released Wednesday afternoon, quickly reverberated around Alaska’s political and oil industry circles. In a reflection of Willow’s broad significance, ConocoPhillips, Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s administration and the North Slope Borough had all intervened in the litigation in defense of the federal agencies being sued by nine separate environmental groups.

Other major potential Alaska oil developments have endured recent political and financial setbacks: The Biden administration has halted development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a state government-sponsored LNG pipeline has stalled and another major project on the North Slope, Pikka, is in limbo amid the acquisition of its owner.

Unfortunately, Biden has the nukes and army brigades on his side to use against the people, so no one is touching him. There is some sarcasm in that statement, but not as much as it should be.

And the ones you can read about haven’t really done a whole lot. But then again, Kagan never presided over a shoplifting case and there she is.

Was her opinion based on a proposed opinion submitted by counsel for plaintiffs?

I'll bet the counsel for plaintiffs wrote her opinion.

Great! Let’s rely on the Middle East, those who hate us and want us dead, for energy. Brilliant.

Dunleavy should go ahead anyway, and let this hack of a judge enforce it.

Hi.

“Was flawed because it failed to thoroughly analyze potential greenhouse gas pollution,”

So judge Gleason is a climate scientist?

Just get a judge to make proclamations supporting your ideology. Just get judges to make rule that your laws are legal. Just like the Nazis did. Exactly like the Nazis did.

Yep. Those Gazprom kickbacks for Hunter are worth tens of millions, and they got THEIR pipelines into Germany and now another one through southern Europe, as well as exporting 1 million barrels of oil a day directly from Russian controlled oil fields to the US.

Ah, But she will still get her gas.

Agreed, or at least that is what she expects. LEFTists are generally believers in 'utopia', a reachable goal if they can just get these pesky obstacles and obstructionists out of the way! Thus, they seek to create heaven on Earth where all will harmonize to the benefit of all!

We FReepers and other like-minded contrarians see the deadly dangers in this goal as it necessitates, based upon history and revealed human nature, a regimentation and iron grip of authority that will enslave the multitude for the benefit of these superior beings in their utopian palaces. Our choices (I presume) look to enable individual freedom by restoring our government overlords to the straight-jacket of the US Constitution BEFORE the termites of the Roosevelts and Thomas Woodrow Wilson so badly infected the Tree of Liberty!

Look on the bright side this gives Biden another chance to be told off by OPEC. I mean at least somebody is telling him “Hell no!”.

“failed to thoroughly analyze potential greenhouse gas pollution”

Millions of moose, caribou, dahl sheep,
bears (both black and brown). Every one
of these critters is a greenhouse gas
emitter. If were a factor, they’d all
be dead. Moose alone, in Norway, emit
293,000.000 metric tons of methane into
the atmosphere every year. (read that
somewhere). The judges’ cause for halt
is ridiculous.

For those of you who won’t vote for a RINO over a Democrat, YOU OWN CRAP LIKE THIS - those are the people you empower, and if you continue to get your way, you’ll also be felons, if you don’t turn in your guns.
