The UK is talking to the Taliban via a third state to get assurances over the safety of diplomats still in Afghanistan and Afghan nations who helped allied forces; planes are said to be grounded at Kabul airport amid chaos on the tarmac; the Taliban has seized all major cities.
We've been reporting live today as nations worldwide rush to bring their nationals and embassy staff home.
In the past hour:
Qatar said it was doing its "utmost" to evacuate diplomats in international organisations seeking to leave Afghanistan.
The Dutch military said it plans to operate "multiple" flights, with one already on the way to rescue "translators, embassy staff and families".
Sky's chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay is on the ground in Kabul, where he reports hearing gunshots near the overrun airport.
He says it is unclear who is fighting who, but it is obvious the noise is "more than just warning shots".
Ramsay admitted he is unsure exactly what is going on, but said the situation at Kabul airport "seems to be descending into absolute chaos".
He added that despite the desperate scenes of thousands attempting to board flights - and reports of five dead - the middle of Kabul is much calmer.
This is where the Taliban has "complete control", he said.

The one good thing about this is Biden is going to get the blame from all these other countries. Media cant sugar coat this and hide it.
And Harris took credit back in April. Loop that into the next election in campaign afs

NPR is sure trying. They're blaming the collapse and chaos in Afghanistan happening now on Trumps immigration policy. But of course!
Oh look...a migrant caravan! That should please Resident Xi Dung.
I don’t know what’s so sad about that. It looks like a typical WalMart on Black Friday in some parts of the U.S.
Now see here, that pic is NOT of a rooftop. Totally different situation than Saigon.
It’s their football, so any chance to not get it kicked, makes the world look like Charlie Brown going oops.
So everything is back to normal in Afghanistan after a 20-year hiatus.
Nothing to see here...nothing to see.
In two weeks, when Jen comes back from vacay, we can learn what the situation really is.
Seriously folks, this is more FF. Gonna get a LOT “worse”. 10-12 days of darkness, and we are just at the beginning.
Enjoy the show!
Someone should slather the UK with Trump “Miss me yet?” advertising.
NPR is rhe sane bunch that once called what happened on 9/11 the “World Trade Center collapse”.

UK to axe landline phones in digital shake-up sparking fears for elderly and vulnerable
How long until it's illegal to leave home without it...
Not really true. I’ve been watching Sky News and some Brits are already trying to blame Trump.
Was jen scheduled for this vacation before taliban took Kabul?
“Talking”? as in “Money Talks”?
Hey pos feral government, how’s that nation building working out for you?
“It looks like a typical WalMart on Black Friday in some parts of the U.S.”
Except...these folks are trying to save their very lives...not just a few bucks thru theft.
