The resurgent Taliban reportedly have taken control of four more provincial capitals Friday as the militant group’s offensive continues to close in on Kabul, where the U.S. is now racing to evacuate "thousands" of American citizens and Afghan interpreters, officials say.
The latest significant blow was the loss of the capital of Helmand province, where American, British and allied NATO forces fought some of the bloodiest battles in the past 20 years. Taliban forces in recent days have seized half of the country's 34 provincial capitals, including its second and third-largest cities, Herat and Kandahar.
"This is all melting down in a short period of time," one U.S. military officer told Fox News on Thursday.

The neocons argued we needed to stay in Afghanistan forever or else this would happen.
We could still provide drones, AC-130s and the like to support them Afghan Military. It’s a stupid strategic move to abandon Afghanistan like this which is what Joe Biden is doing.
Establishing a free society and elected government in Afghanistan is like asking Maxine Waters to do neurosurgery.
This isn’t a ‘Blitz’ as we understand it. Afghanistan is falling much faster than that. There is only enough time for some Taliban gang-bangers to show up in a captured Humvee to accept the Afghan national army’s surrender. Check that: the Afghan national army already bugged out, so the Taliban is probably being feted by the local headman before they drive on to the next village/town/city.
Or, Joe Biden to hold a coherent press conference!

We should’ve abandoned Afghanistan 10 years ago. Nothing but a waste of blood and treasure. At least Biden is getting us out. Nobody else did. It might be the only action he’s taken as president that I support, even if he’s making a mess of it.
Freedom as you use it is only a western, even specifically anglo-saxon, concept. The mission in Af-Pak was like training cats to love "freedom."

I play beer-league hockey with a group of Afghanistan-Iraq vets. They all are friends, stick together. Some are still in the reserves. I listen to their chatter about training, the VA, funny stories about guys in their units. One guy has a chunk of his leg missing, another guy has PTSD, is prone to blow-ups when something in the game doesn't go his way. His buddies will calm him down.

Yes...it’s not just the Taliban but the people who are willing to be ruled by them. They do not want to be “westernized”, they’re Muslims, and regardless of the hardships Taliban will certainly bring the population...they prefer a perverted society of Sharia Law... and woman as sub-citizens...children as sexual toys.
And it’s 1, 2, 3 what are we fightin’ for?..........................
The Taliban is doing this with like 35,000 soldiers or what ever they call themselves
