JUST IN - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett refuses to block Indiana University’s vaccine mandate for students. She acted alone and gave no explanation.

democrats can count on their judges 100%. Republican appointees are always a crapshoot.
Right, other than possibly on abortion she seems like a conformist which is basically part of how she got to where she is.
Her conforming goes along with bad policy making decisions.
It was easy to tell that she was one of “them” before her confirmation hearings. Red flags which, when taken one by one, wouldn’t seen very suspicious. But she had’em all.
The three names. Arms full of Whole Foods bags when she got out of her car after shopping. The virtue-signaling designer family. Every time I saw her my BS meter was triggered. “Phony.”
When she was nominated, reading these threads it was obvious that she was “the one” ONLY because she’s Catholic. How long will it take for people to realize that the younger Catholics do not have the same foundation or principles that the boomer and pre-boomer generations of Catholics had?
PDJT’s three people are the same generation of Catholics, and all are disappointments. It seems more like a social club than a religion now, and that wasn’t the case when most of us grew up. I wasn’t raised Catholic, but tons of my friends were, and they were devout in how to live a respectable life.
Anyhow ... Just my opinion.
“She snowed everyone.”
She didn’t snow EVERYone. Not by a long shot.
I’m conservative and I sometimes shop at Whole Foods. Their food is pretty excellent. I also shop at Trader Joe’s and I have a Subaru. And I love to go wine tasting at wineries as a hobby.
There are other conservatives who wouldn’t be caught dead doing any of these things. But I’m not surprised a Supreme Court justice shops at Whole Foods (aka “Whole Paycheck”). She’s wealthy.
(I do draw the line at Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and the anti-male razors.)
The "equity" of the sexes has been modern society's downfall. The sexes are NOT equal, in very fundamental and consequential ways. Denying this this denies the very reality of what holds us together as a culture.
Starting with Reagan's appointment of Sandra Day O'Connor, who ruled to obliterate all sodomy laws, we've been a nation ruled by hormones.
Just remember — she got a “thumbs up” from the all the right people.
Right. Like I said, it wasn’t JUST the Whole Foods thing. It was a compilation of a few things.
In CA, I did Trader Joe’s sometimes, and even picked up some Two Buck Chuck once in a while. :)
This was not a Supreme Court "decision." The Supreme Court has not decided to hear the case; they haven't even been asked to hear it. Instead, the plaintiffs asked Barrett (the Justice who hears motions from the 7th Circuit) to issue an injunction against Indiana University's policy while the plaintiffs prepare papers asking the Supreme Court to take up the case. Such motions are almost never granted, because (a) it's not clear if the Court will ever hear the case, and (b) it's likewise not clear that the plaintiffs would win even if the Court took the case.
So motions like this are very rarely granted, and the denials are usually without any explanation.
The denial of a motion like this sets no precedent; the plaintiffs can still ask the Supreme Court to take up the case. All that Barrett decided was to leave the status quo in place while the normal process goes forward.
Students are not just students. They are also customers buying a product......and education...or whatever passes for education these days.
P.S. There is also the Commerce Clause.
I agree, they should get their tuition refunded. You don’t get much education from a university anyway.
I agree. HOWEVER, are privacy rights not protected by the 4th amendment?
Not really. Judge Bork was right. Basically a lot of what the guvmint pokes its nose into was so far away from imagined by the founding fathers that they found it unndecessary to secure privacy as a right.
IMO, Trump has the worst track record of any GOP president since probably Nixon or Eisenhower. No excuses for naming duds like Kavanaugh as his first choice, or naming a bunch of career federal judges and beltway insiders after running on a campaign pledge to "drain the swamp"
I wouldn't have drunk that kool-aid, I've been saying since the Bush era that I don't give a crap if the judge claims his "judicial philosophy" is "originalist". It's proven as useful as a politician claiming to be a "fiscal conservative"
