Firefighters battling the Dixie Fire have also been facing a second enemy: a serial arsonist who went on a spree of setting fires in July and August — and who sought to trap fire crews with his fires, according to agents from the U.S. Forest Service. They allege former college professor Gary Maynard is the culprit, citing their tracking of his movements and other evidence.
"Where Maynard went, fires started. Not just once, but over and over again," the government said in a court memorandum arguing for Maynard to be denied bail.

Coincidentally, over in Algeria, strange things are happening too. The Interior Minister says 50 fires were started at the same time. In Turkey, recent arson is suspected to be a terrorist activity. A few days ago the Israeli airforce bombed Hamas targets to “counter #arson attacks“. And in California a professor of criminology was actually tracked, caught and arrested for setting fires “on the edge” of the huge Dixie blaze. He might be nuts, but the others may have a plan. Has anyone asked them?...

Rumors are that he and another pyscho started many of the fires.
The good thing has been the massive removal once “Holy, but now dead trees and brush.
Then, those areas were patrolled with helicopters which were in contact with P&E and local fire bosses and fire fighting air craft.
That quick response capability stopped many fires before they became out of control.
It doesn’t take Rocket Scientists to figure out fires started with zero electrical storms were probably caused by men as an accident or as arson.
