AP EXPLAINER: How do border policies affect US infection rates?

PHOENIX — As the delta variant fuels an increase of COVID-19 cases in the U.S., some of President Joe Biden’s critics blame the surge on his border policies, which allow some migrants to enter the country to apply for asylum.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis last week accused Biden of “helping to facilitate” the spread of the coronavirus. Fox News host Sean Hannity referred to migrants causing “the biggest super-spreader event” and incorrectly asserted that none was being tested.

But public health experts say arriving migrants are not driving the rising infections in the U.S. The main culprits are people who refuse to get vaccinated. Furthermore, migrants who are allowed to enter are generally tested for COVID-19 and given hotel rooms to quarantine if they test positive, though federal authorities have not made data available about such cases.

The number of arriving migrants is far too small to be driving the enormous increases in cases across the U.S., said Dr. Joseph McCormick, a physician and former CDC epidemiologist now based at the Brownsville campus of the University of Texas Health Science Center at the Houston School of Public Health.

“Given what we are seeing now across the country, it just doesn’t work to try to attribute that to migrants,” McCormick said. Furthermore, experts say, the delta variant, which was first identified in India, began circulating in the U.S. before it was in Mexico or other parts of Latin America, where most migrants arrive from.

“So the claim that migrants entering from the southern border brought delta to the U.S. is baseless rhetoric,” said Max Hadler, senior policy director for Physicians for Human Rights, in a statement. “Rates are increasing everywhere, in every state in the country. It’s not a border issue or a migrant issue, it’s a national issue.”

Well, then: How many are being tested? Maybe 0.3%?!

Article doesn't bother telling us - simply asserts that Hannity was "incorrect." Great reporting! /s

If this is true, how did the infection of a handful of workers at the Wuhan lab result in a worldwide pandemic?

So, given that the Biden regime is busing and flying infected illegal aliens all over the country, but especially into Florida and Texas, every word Mr. Hadler uttered is a baseless deflection from the truth.

Apparently delta was first detected in the US in March 2021.

So. 40 people gathering in a church is a criminal super-spreader event.

But hundreds of thousands of people illegally entering, being crammed on buses and planes EACH DAY (BY THE GOVERNMENT ITSELF, BREAKING ITS OWN LAWS) with no masks, and simply being released into communities across the country with no testing and no vaccination is not?

Gee. If you didn’t know better, you might think this was a deliberate attempt to seed the population.

You might think.

The main culprits are people who refuse to get vaccinated.

Vaccinated with the vaccine that neither keeps you from getting the virus, nor keeps you from spreading it to others?

Officials cannot say, and do not KNOW, accurate numbers of illegals already here or entering, as we speak...so it follows that, if vaccinated at all, it’s not clear who or WHERE they are!!

Saying that illegals enter WITH the virus is understandable, and wholly probable...since no border officials keep an accurate accounting and are likely PROHIBITED from doing just that!

The fact that Texas, after having had a much lower case rate than closed down places like CA, has just announced that its hospitals are in danger of running out of beds certainly has nothing to do with the flood of “migrants” coming over the border, of course.

The government is distributing the illegals all over the country…when they catch them. But I am sure the vast majority remain in Texas, sick and all, and this is what is accounting for the increase.

Mexico has had a big problem with Covid, made worse by poor medical care and living conditions, and even the many “migrants” who are not Mexican (i.e., Africans and Middle Easterners) will certainly have contracted it by the time the get through Mexico to the US border.

The other US state that is getting a huge number of illegals is Florida, btw, some of them being placed here by the Feds and others just moving on from their entry point in Texas to go for nearby states with labor needs.

No kidding? You really think hunkering down in the steamy, sweaty hold of a cargo ship for a little trans-Atlantic cruise with five dozen other "New Citizens" and inadequate bathroom facilities might "up" your chances of contracting the Covid?

I never cease learning new things here at Free Republic!

Like BHObama’s unmasked party, the release of known infectors shows that the regime in charge doesn’t care about peasants AND that concerns about WuhanFlu are a lie.

The INVADERS are NOT staying at the border.

Biden is busing & flying them all over the country, contaminating every state.

See the linguistic acrobatics here? It’s not the overwhelming number of infected people coming across and being transplanted throughout the country, it’s the fact that you haven’t protected yourself from them.

What is going on is attempted genocide — against red states.

Where are the Republicans?

The CDC is speaking out of both sides of their mouth and the AP is running cover for them.

The report says: “But public health experts say arriving migrants are not driving the rising infections in the U.S. The main culprits are people who refuse to get vaccinated.”

Yet, simultaneously the CDC admits the vaccinations do not prevent a new Wuhan Virus infection though they claim vaccinations will make a later infection from being too severe (though some vaccinated folks who got a post-vaccination infection have died). Nor do the vaccinations stop the vaccinated who have a post-vaccination infection from being infectious to others.

Neither the CDC nor the AP can say, factually, that infected persons arriving in the U.S., by any path, are not part of surges of new Wuhan Virus infections in locales where they arrive.

If Facebook uses the AP report as a “fact check” against posts that disagree with it, you know it is pure censorship.

Any report that says “the experts” without identifying those experts must be taken as possibly suspicious and not factual.
