“The fact of the matter is that when he left the White House, Truman was loaded,” says Paul Campos, a law professor at the University of Colorado Boulder who has done what no Truman historians seem to have bothered to do — examine the financial records in the Truman archives in Independence, Mo. “He wasn’t just comfortably well off. He was Rich with a capital ‘R,’ and way into the 1%.”

And not a word about Trump donating his salary.
Actually, I answer my own questions by following links in the article. It looks like the sloppiness in the article came from the editos not the writer. His longer article here carefully addresses the points I made aand overall it’s much more convincing:

How much has jimmah cahtah collected since 1980?
Stanley Ann (SAD) and Lolo lived all their post-1960 years on C|A and Indonesian army graft. SAD played anthropologist just far enough to determine the priorities for Gen. Suharto's kill-list, which Lolo then executed.
It is therefore no wonder when a fraudulently-documented US president figuratively shouts his most dearly-held, actual credential: "I'm really good at killin' people!"
Barry's having watched SAD and Lolo while under Turdi's tutelage and amidst the C|A's murder of hundreds of thousands, how could it have gone any other way?
Those are sort of credentials the Deep State sought in its 44th president.
Excepting reasonable Secret Service protection, eliminate all the post-Presidential benefits for ALL OF THEM. The original concept was that with ample pensions and expenses, they would participate in useful deeds, like attending funerals of foreign heads of state, offer sage advice, etc. — thus keeping them from selling themselves and their influence like whores. But they are selling themselves.
How many millions have the Clintons grifted out of Bill’s Presidency and Hillary’s crony jobs? Add the Clinton Foundation (aka the Campaign to Elect Hillary and Grift the World). Add Chelsea Clinton’s fake career on corporate boards — I’m sure she provides lots of business wisdom. Why isn’t the author interested in that and Biden family graft?
Yet, only the thought that Trump might get a nickel concerns the author. Trump who didn’t even accept his salary as President. Trump who has lost probably hundreds of millions due to partisan depredations and interference in his business affairs.
No doubt Truman was a grifter too — he was a Democrat so tapping the public till has to be assumed.
With all of the low income folks that come into government and congress and leave rich, we’re going to get spun up about Trump?
The media have absolutely no shame. What a disgusting cesspool…
if the authors purpose is to attack government largesse, he should go after Congressional pensions. But that was not his purpose, it was specifically to go after Trump.
I did not finish the hit piece, so if he does please correct me.
This is not personal Pete Dovgan, and I understand the points you make, but you and I disagree on this.
Truman should have been impeached for obstruction of justice, plain and simple. And he should have been properly impeached by the rules in place at the time, not the idiotic rules and fashions of impeachment we have today. He presented one face to the public of the virulent anti-communist while the government was infested with communist spies. It is a given that any action against him would have failed, given how he played politics and built up his reputation and image with the laudatory press (even if there were, back then, more press entities in a more balance press corps willing to take a stand against him than in succeeding years up to today) and I don’t think he was the “only one” who could have made hard decisions. There were men at that time who could have. Perhaps your statement would be accurate if you specified “other Democrats”.
Truman, as President, proudly and defiantly removed OFFICIAL government files on people who were being investigated and had them brought to the White House so the access could be restricted as being under the watch of the Executive Branch. Kind of sounds like the Clinton White House to me.
That was done under his direction, by him.
Not his underlings or political allies.
Him alone.
And it wasn’t just one or two files, it was dozens, if not hundreds of files that he gathered under his wing in the White House, removed from the State Department record systems and other departments record systems. He gave the express orders to make this happen with the full and stated intent of stymieing Joseph McCarthy.
These were government employees, Administration employees, State Department employees, and employees from dozens of different branches who were being investigated, almost all of whom DID have ties to the Soviet Union.
It was he who set the rules for investigators. The investigators had to travel to the White House. Only one person at a time could examine the records. No documents could be checked out and removed from the White House. No notes could be taken. No documents could be brought in for comparison. No photographs could be taken. Formal requests and appointments had to be made in writing, in advance.
When documentation was provided, it was incomplete. Parts of records or whole records were removed, and instead of the standard process where a document was inserted in place of removed documents stating who had custody of the documents and when it was removed were NOT THERE. As said, an investigator would show up, and the record was mysteriously unavailable, mislaid, misfiled, or whatever.
These were Truman’s rules. HE was the source of them. He was the one who laid them down. And he was proud of it. It was the Presidential equivalent of Andrew Jackson’s public declaration of “John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it.”
I disagree with you. Truman was a scumbag. That he pulled the wool over the eyes of Americans with his “anti-communism” and crying poor when he left office is one thing. He understood all too well the importance of building an image and he did it damn well.
For reference, I suggest the best book on this era by the now deceased M. Stanton Evans: “Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies”. It is important to note that, in stark comparison to the many, many anti-McCarthy books written, very few if any who did original research, but simply referenced other books who did not do any primary research, the author M. Stanton Evans was a cub reporter during the McCarthy era, has done extensive primary research on this, has seen time and time again with his own eyes viewing the actual records in question in the archives the evidence of file tampering of official records, often the only evidence the original document was originally there is a scrap of paper tauntingly left under a staple where it had been ripped out. He had fought long, officially documented battles with the New York Times over four decades about inaccuracy or outright lies in their reporting (backed up by official documentation from the archives) and never received any satisfaction from them.
This article posted by euram shows EXACTLY the type of man Truman was. I don’t blame people who don’t want to believe this article or M. Stanton Evans’ book. Truman wanted to make his legacy untouchable to the American public, and succeeded.
Fifth: He recognized the State of Israel.
Yes, as you said, I discovered he was a typical Democrat.
In this particular aspect of him I describe in my post at #29, his putting the interests of the Democrat Party above the National Security of the country, and it is indisputable in my eyes that he did so, was quite disillusioning to me.
Almost as disillusioning as it was to find out that Joseph McCarthy was not the evil, malignant monster, trampling over Constitutional rights that he was portrayed to be during nearly my entire life by my trusted teachers in schools, textbooks, the Media, and my own government.
That portrayal of McCarthy is a flat out lie, a typical Leftist slander. I have taken the time, read extensively on this, and looked at official records of proceedings to come to this accurate conclusion. It was extremely disillusioning to me, but it was a lesson learned, that lesson being most useful to me right now at this time, today, with what we see going on:
Never accept the government, media, educational, or literary version of ANY issue blindly. Never. Always harbor doubt. Always research important issues to the limits of your own ability to do so with your time, resources, and intellectual capability as your boundaries.
“Bush and Obama already have more than enough, the main focus is to deny Trump.”
****
Which is the point of the “I hate Trump” article.
Well let’s fix it before Biden starts sucking off that teat.
Politicians are crooks? Who knew?
I recall reading the biography when it came out in 1992. I knew little of Truman. When you understand that he was part of the “machine” in MO…in normal parlance you would call him a hack.
Trump will regain his losses through asset inflation due to Xidens policies.
I hope you given a thorough examination of the JFK myth. If you haven’t do so. Start with Thomas Reeves book “A Question of Character : A Life of John F Kennedy” on JFK.
McCarthy was very close to the Kennedy family, gave RFK a job.
I think the main negative thing I can find on McCarthy was a drinking problem. Something probably all old time politicians had back then !
The media’s main job is to manipulate not inform as they would have you believe. They can inform if you can look past the manipulation.
“$500,000 a year (in today’s dollars) for 7 years does not get you into the top 1%. Top 10%, yes but not that next level.”
Five hundred thousand in 1951 dollars is worth about 5.6 million today and times 7 if that is what you are saying gets him to almost 39 million in todays dollars.
As of 2020 to be in the top 1% in USA you need to have a net worth of just over 11 million dollars.
I thought he made his bundle in haberdashery.
I absolutely have reexamined the JFK myth.
By the way, I do try to give credit where credit is due. Truman did approve the dropping of the bomb. He did the Berlin Airlift. He did recognize Israel. JFK did things get the space program going and he did give some tax relief. Things like that.
McCarthy was a devout Catholic, and that put him in the Kennedy circle apart from party politics and was even the Godfather to RFK’s first child, Kathleen. And when McCarthy died, the Catholic church went all out with a Solemn Pontifical Requiem Mass was celebrated before more than 100 priests and 2,000 others at Washington’s St. Matthew’s Cathedral.
During his career, he was known a a drink nurser, not a drunk (regardless of the slanders from the Left on this) but it is a fact that after his unfair censure, he drank quite heavily and it did contribute to his early death.
LOL, he was a “failed” haberdasher...he was never any good at business.
Truman’s political opponents tried hard to make hay at that, but it never came across as anything more than political backbiting, even if it was largely true.
