Skip Transport Inc., one of the first electric scooter companies to operate in San Francisco, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, according to the San Francisco Business Times.
The company was originally founded as Waybots Inc. before launching as Skip in 2018 with seed funding. In August 2018, Skip was one of only two scooter companies (the other was Scoot) allotted one-year permits to operate in San Francisco. But by the end of 2019, the company's scooters were no longer permitted to operate in the city, which may have something to do with several incidents of their scooters bursting into flames.
In December 2020, Skip announced they had been acquired by competitor Helbiz, a New York-based startup that operates e-bikes, e-scooters and mopeds. Most recently, Skip's scooters were available in Long Beach, Portland and Washington, D.C.

Is it the flames?
Or is it that nobody wants to drive a low-rider scooter through mounds of human sh*t?
You beat me to it.
Just awful. Mostly tourists and young kids who screwed it up. The city passed ordinance after ordinance setting fines and so on, soon they were all gone.
I was so glad when these things were taken off the streets of downtown Dallas. Several near hits from idiots going as fast as they could around corners n at exits of blogs at quitting time. The idiot who signed of on them thought nothing of consequences of mixing pedestrians with motorized vehicles on sidewalks.
What? This was an unworkable business model? Gee whiz.
“ exits of blogs”?
Somebody notify humblegunner!
At 3mph. The horror.
Maybe they should market it as the e-Shoplifter or the e-Mugger? or the e-Street$h1ter?
I have a couple of these things on my boat. They’re fantastic for getting around the harbor to go eat, shop, etc. Much easier than untieing the dinghy and going across the water. And the gkids...who are teenagers now...love them.
They have a special sh*t tread on the tires.
OOPS! BLDGS - stupid PHONE autocorrect!
Autocorrect is great when it works. But it hardly ever works.
I would expect the scooter wheels would become so clogged with feces they could no longer run.

Almost happened to me. I was riding my scooter downhill on a sidewalk, glanced behind at a car coming up, and lost control. Flipped over at a driveway and face-planted into someone's lawn. I was in my late-50's and decided it was time to give it up, sold the scooter at a garage sale. Around the same time I sold my motorcycle. These toys are for the young.
“These toys are for the young.”
Skate boarding was a passion when I was young 40+ years ago. I’d love to get on one again but I’ve finally reached the point where God has granted me wisdom enough to discern foolishness.
Same here. I bought my first skate board when I was 12, put it on lay-away and took three months before getting it from meager earnings. Local stores allowed kids to pay weekly towards getting a toy. Totally enjoyed riding it, along with neighborhood kids riding theirs.
Tragically, my god-son died while riding his skate board. Had no helmet on, was only 16. This was about 35 years ago. When I rode my scooter up to about 15 years ago, I was foolish enough not to wear a helmet, but luckily ended up splattered on a lawn. Now in my 70's, I no longer take risks like that.
