The number of COVID-19 cases per day in the US has surged by more than 40% from the previous week amid the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant, the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention head said Thursday.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said the seven-day average for new cases daily was 89,463 on Thursday, up 43% from the week before.

“Across the board, we are seeing increases in cases and hospitalizations in all age groups,” Walensky said at the White House’s COVID-19 briefing.

Walensky said that new hospitalizations had increased by about 41% from the previous week, with a seven-day average of 7,348 admissions.

White House COVID-19 response chief, Jeff Zients, said that seven states with some of the lowest vaccination rates were driving the latest surges.

Dan Bongino was ranting today about the return of masks etc.

He keeps referring to MoneyBall and “if he’s a good hitter, why doesn’t he hit good”.

I believe this is the wrong allegory to use and misses the source of the logic.

To really understand where this is coming from, one must go back to the early days of MADD. While one does not advocate driving drunk, the resulting formation of the nanny-driven-police-state trampling on our rights was born of their slogan....If it saves just one life, it’s worth it.

This is where we are...

The variants differ in such minuscule ways the only way to ID the differences and say it’s this or that variant is by genetically sequencing a sample. That shows the subtle differences between them, and actually defines them. Kind of like a detailed recipe (say for a cookie). There can be subtle changes in recipe, it’s still a cookie, just a little different.

Testing for the virus in general is much less detailed. It’s just looking for the cookie. (Actually crumbs of it, that it tries to amplify, but the general point is there). It can’t tell you the recipe, but can tell you it’s a cookie…

Sorry, I’m hungry…

Hope this helps and take care.

Just let everybody lose and see what happens.

It’s the only way to move forward.

You would think so...but I’ve given blood 3x in past year...tested negative (or below measurable levels) each time. Now, someone here said if you have a strong immune system you may not get antibodies.

The testers don’t have to stop using the inaccurate method (CDC 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel) until December 31st. So the numbers will be wildly high until then, if not longer.
