This is a tribal society that wants to fight and kill each other. It’s not a real country. Somebody just drew lines on a map and said “this here is Afghanistan!”...The idea that we were going to build a functioning society out of that backward stone age junkyard was always pure fantasy and a waste of taxpayer money.

When you think about it, Afghanistan really isn’t even a country. It’s just a collection of often-competing tribes. There is an old saying from that part of the world:

“I against my brothers, my brothers and I against my cousins, my cousins and I against strangers.“

In this case the “strangers” are, of course, the Americans.

Now throw in religion. Islam against the evil Crusaders and their Afghani collaborators. There was no chance to “nation build” under those conditions. That’s something George W. Bush should have known going in.
