SWAN HILLS, Alta. — RCMP in Alberta say a 26-year-old tree planter has died after being attacked by a bear.

Spokesman Cpl. Troy Savinkoff says police were called on Saturday afternoon about the attack, which he says happened in a remote location northwest of Swan Hills.Savinkoff says the woman was flown by a private helicopter to the airport in Swan Hills, where they were met by EMS, but she did not survive.

A statement by Alberta’s Justice and Solicitor General office says it is suspected the person was working in the area when an adult black bear attacked.

The statement says fish and wildlife officers have set up a trail camera and traps in the area, and that they took samples from the victim’s clothing for analysis to create a DNA profile of the bear.It says officers have located three black bears near the site of the attack and are awaiting DNA results to confirm if one of them is responsible.

Savinkoff says the woman was from Peers, Alta., but the family does not want her name released.

Poor Lady. She was not prepared to deal with a known predator in that area. I’m wondering do American tree planters carry weapons of protection when they go to forests? Something stronger than Mace.

What are they going to do to the bears?

Bears just doing what bears do. Why punish them for it. Are they any threat to any humans who don’t invade their place?

I agree. This isn’t a bear targeting people in their cars at yellowstone. This is northern alberta!

Did the article say if she was alone? I didn’t read that part. If she was, I’m proposing this one for a darwin award

Deciduous trees do not naturally grow there. Various fir trees some merely spindly poles are the norm

Who would have thought that hoedadders worked in a dangerous environment? Snakes would be the most obvious danger but bears? Those people work hard and long hours.

Best things to do with a black bear are wave a stick over your head. They get confused and think you are twelve feet tall because the stick is twelve feet up. And throw rocks behind them — They don’t like being surrounded. But mostly, look straight at them, and let them see your hands — signs of a predator.

The best thing to do with a grizzly bear is to not meet one.

The most dangerous things in the woods, by a factor of a thousand, are other people.

The best thing to do with a black bear is drill a couple of .44 mags in the pump house.

Completely unnecessary out in the woods. Around your house and children? Absolutely!

These lefty idiots think nature can’t survive without them. Trees grow like weeds in the north land. No need to plant. Then he died.

Northern Canadia definitely has a shortage of trees. Just as Los Angeles is desperately in need of millions more cars
