Chicago owes former President Donald Trump a million-dollar tax refund but the Cook County State’s Attorney, which is typically focused on handling the city’s crime, will mount an effort to block Trump from receiving his check.
The Hill reports that the “Cook County state’s attorney is seeking to block a $1 million tax refund that the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board ruled is owed to former President Trump on his Chicago skyscraper’s 2011 tax bill.”
The building was “over-assessed” according to a unanimous vote of Illinois’ state property tax board, but the Cook County States Attorney says the city should not pay, since granting Trump his refund would take money out of the pockets of Chicago taxpayers — even though the money was never the city’s, to begin with.

On the way to a banana republic.

But “TRUMP”!
They could try denying him the refund because he is white and therefore racially guilty of the indelible stain of slavery. That would be a little better reasoning for this action.
“even though the money was never the city’s, to begin with.”
Au Contraire, all monies belong to Government, they just decide how much they will allow you to keep.

Ok, I’m not an attorney and I didn’t stay in a Holiday Inn last night but somehow I don’t believe this is a winning stratagy when Trump takes them to court to collect his million plus court costs and attorney fees.
Or worse.
Let’s be as charitable as possible when dealing with the crooked leftist ideologues of Chicago - as a state and city, they are completely bankrupt.
They need every $$ they can squeeze out of any sucker who happens to be inside their grasp.
Another thing they stole fair and square.
We arrived in style on January 20, 2021. The Coup was accomplished. The sheep don’t give a shit. As long as they get four (4) things, they are o.k. They can use more, but as long as they get the four (4) they are o.k. They are: (1) free stuff (2) free dope (3) free sex (4) more free stuff.
Total fascism.
Lets be less charitable and say these extortionists’ heads belong on pikes.
If it was never the city’s to begin with, how did that money get used to give Chicago taxpayers a break? Not believing it, and either way they can’t try to guilt them into keeping the money or else “ the poor children suffer” excuse.
Can't only blame the "free stuff" crowd. Plenty of us working for our stuff that refuse to make a stand because of what it will cost us: the mortgage, the car payments, the credit card bills, the light bill, clothes on our kid's backs, food on the table and enough booze to drink while watching the "Big Game" on that new flat screen digital wifi alexa controlled TV.
We have an serious infestation of “prosecutors” in this country.
>>”...since granting Trump his refund would take money out of the pockets of Chicago taxpayers...”
Gee, if only these forked tongued scum actually made decisions based on that logic, the country would be much better off.
As if they’d be writing a $1 million check. It would most likely be applied toward future tax obligations.
We used to call this GRAND LARCENY and a US Attorney would step in CRIMINALLY PROSECUTE the Thief trying to STEAL THE MONEY
Donald Trump is trying to take what Chicago has rightfully stolen.
