Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said in an interview with Healthline published Friday that the country can stop the Chinese coronavirus “in its tracks” if everyone wears a mask until more are vaccinated.
Healthline asked the CDC director if she agrees with former CDC director Tom Frieden’s estimation that “we could get to 200,000 new cases a day.”
“I’ve seen modeling data. Some of the modeling data do go up that high. Not all of them do. Do I think it’s possible? Yes, I think it’s possible,” she said.
“What I do want to reiterate, though, is a unified approach as a country would stop this [pandemic] in its tracks. We know what we need to do to stop this virus. It can fall short of many of the things we had to do last year. Do I think we all need to stay home right now? I do not,” she continued before pitching masks as a crucial mitigation strategy.
“But if we are able to get the vast majority of people vaccinated and if, in the meantime until they are fully vaccinated, we had everybody wearing masks, we can stop this in its tracks and really be in a way better place in a relatively short period of time,” she added.
It remains unclear why she believes this action would stop the virus “in its tracks,” given the mass spread of the virus last year, particularly in heavily restricted blue states which had mask mandates in place for months on end.

Is the F word still banned here?
the mid-term variant
Whatever happened to herd immunity? The prevailing theory used to be that if 70% or more of the population got vaccinated then the ones who didn’t would be protected anyway so they were always assumed to be there. When did 70% become 100% or we’re all gonna die? Why isn’t everyone dying in Sweden?
“Stop this in its tracks.”
Sheesh. I’d say the CDC would lose its remaining credibility if it had any credibility left to lose.
COVID 19 is now an endemic disease. It will work its way through the population until we achieve herd immunity and/or a fully effective vaccine. Its effect on the death rate will be what it will be, but we ain’t a’gonna stop it now.
People at the CDC should not be afraid to utter the words “endemic disease.” It’s out there. We will live with it. A few people will die from it.

Well played.
Nothing but a bunch of political hacks. If the truth ever comes out of her mouth it will be an accident.
Right. How’s that 15 days to flatten the curve workin’ for ya?
I think so.
We need trials and executions asap.
This is their new play. Since the thing cannot be stopped they plan on using the fact some will not follow their messages to hit the non dems over the head with: well if the republican states like Florida and texas had followed the plan, it would have been stopped. So, they are to blame, vote for bidet.
CDC Director has totally lost touch with reality and lives in an alternate universe.
15 days to flatten the curve. Sounds good to me!
Geeze, Bulwyf, I just wanted to use the F word!
:D
And now a sewer gator will go hungry tonight.
:D
Do you mean "Fauci" or the other f-word?
“Curve” must have been a code word for “country”.
CDC pronouncements are like the sign that says “Free Beer Tomorrow”.
Will people ever catch on?
