Defense chiefs meet after suicide drone apparently targets Israeli-operated vessel near Oman, killing two foreign crewmen; Iranian media say attack was response to strikes in Syria.
Israel's defense leadership convened Friday night to discuss what it believes to be an Iranian attack on a ship with Israeli ties that killed two foreign crewmen, as a senior government source accused Tehran of "sowing destruction" and said it was proving itself to be "a global problem."
Meanwhile, state-owned Iranian news network Al-Alam citing "well informed sources," said the attack was in response to a reported Israeli strike in Syria that killed "two resistance men" last week.
Two ship crewmen, a British and Romanian national, died in Thursday night's attack off the coast of Oman on the oil tanker Mercer Street...

We shall see where this leads...
Ship? Are we talking here about the USS Liberty?
i dont believe iran can stop nuclear missiles
all Israel has to do to hurt Iranian commerce is to sink about 6-10 Iranian cargo ships at their docks or where the water is shallow. This would help to block key shipping lanes and deliver a strong message of “These Jews fight back and don’t need to take names, just body counts”.
Time to start torpedoing Iranian warships.
Nuke ‘em, Israel. Right back to the days of Ötzi.
The tone of the new Israeli government is not encouraging.
They are seeking an international coalition against Iran before they retaliate.
They talk like a government that does not want to retaliate.
If I can sense that, you can be certain that thousands of radicals in Iran can sense it, too.
Now THERE is a new oxymoron for ya!
Per Godzilla’s Threat Matrix Report
“Russia -
Times of Israel is alleging that during June talks between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin received the impression that “Washington does not welcome the continuous Israeli raids,” and believes Moscow can act more aggressively to foil them.
According to the unnamed source, the Russians are now supplying Syrian forces with more advanced anti-missile systems and knowhow, rendering them more effective at countering Israeli raids. Because of the new Russian policy, Syria was able to thwart Israeli strikes last week, the report said.
OBSERVATION - There has been RUMINT out there of Russia’s policy change and I noted in a previous report the use by Syria of more modern Russian made systems. The strikes last week were also a cat and mouse game by Israel which used F16 and not its stealth F35s to gain the attention of Syrian ADA radar systems. This seems to be marking the start of a race to see who’s systems can counter the others. Be watching to see if the Soviet equipment is good enough to have Israeli airstrikes against them as they’ve done in the past.
The Russian S-300, S400 and maybe over watched by S500 batteries were Russian operated - Syrians watched from the sidelines.
Message to Bennett that personal agreements by Putin and Bibi are no longer operative. And BTW, our AD/AD defenses, when properly used, are as good as we claim. This will now help Mother Russia sell more of our now proven systems.
“state-owned Iranian news network Al-Alam citing “well informed sources,” said the attack was in response to a reported Israeli strike in Syria that killed “two resistance men” last week. “
I don’t think the IRI did this because just 2 ordinary “resistance men” were killed. Must have been more, or someone or something more significant.
The Israelis killed a Hezbollah leader and his senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard director last week.
That makes more sense. Thanks
The Israeli pin prick attacks in Syria are designed to provoke an Iranian response.
The Israeli hope is that the Iranian response will be so big that it can used against Iran in the court of world public opinion.
One can argue if Netanyahu were still in charge in Israel would shoot back right now and I think they would for sure if he was still around as PM.
The smart response from Israel would be one done at a time of Israel’s choosing not an angry response to Iran’s provcation.
That assessment is appreciated. It’s my personal opinion that we should keep an eye on Iranian assets in the world that are more accessible to Israel; they can send a strong message without anything in Syria going “boom.”
Just drop some bombs on where the Iran leaders live.
Kill them.
Update
the ship, Mercer Street was attacked by an Iranian drone type Shahed 171
Ship now being escorted to safe harbor by USS Reagan & USS Mitscher
