GOP Rep Says He Hugged Cop Who Shot Ashli Babbitt and Said 'You Did What You Had to Do'

Republican Rep. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma defended the anonymous Capitol Police officer who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt on Jan. 6 during a weekend conversation with C-SPAN.

In a program that aired on Sunday, Mullin broke with other high-profile conservatives, including former President Donald Trump, who have condemned Babbitt’s death and the secrecy surrounding it.

Mullin apparently not only knows the identity of the officer who killed Babbitt, but he told C-SPAN he actually hugged him immediately following the fatal shooting.

“After it happened, he came over and he was physically and emotionally distraught. And I actually gave him a hug and I said, ‘Sir, you did what you had to do,’” Mullin said.

“He was doing his job. He got put in a situation where he had to do his job,” the Republican continued. “And if you’re going to present your weapon … and give commands and they still don’t listen and they still approach, you don’t have a choice.”

Mullin said the officer shot Babbitt “in a manner of self-defense.”

All I ever hear when a black person gets killed is criticism that the cop didn’t have to use deadly force. Should have used mace or tazer.

I guess this is “different”

What it is is disgusting.

Doesn’t explain why they didn’t identify him per DC law regarding identifying officers involved in shootings within 5 business days.

10 years or so in the house already. I think he’s ready for something else. This is no time to be a Liz Cheney.

There are people with whom we disagree. Then there are RINOs and traitors.
But worse is this incredible lowlife. Beneath contempt.

May God bless people like Ashli Babbitt who fight to preserve what is left of our great nation’s freedoms.

This info was posted a few days ago, but it’s worth repeating....

Most of his constituents will vote for him again and he won’t be primaried. He’ll get that....”Oh, I can’t believe he did that. I’ve known his family for 50 years. See him in church all the time when he’s back home. Nice Christian family. Bless his heart”.

More proof that EVERYONE in that building knows and has known who murdered Ashli Babbitt and they’re all part of the coverup, as long as it protects them and the criminal enterprise they’re part of.

With big budget but little accountability, long-troubled Capitol Police face questions after siege.....

The force of about 2,100 sworn officers, which patrols a hallowed but tiny area, boasts a $516 million budget. That is more than twice the spending on police in Atlanta, 1½ times the spending in Detroit and approaches the $545 million budget for the District of Columbia, budget documents show. Yet reports by the force’s Office of Inspector General, tasked with rooting out waste and fraud, are kept under wraps. The Capitol Police, like Congress, are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

“self defense”?!

He shot her from behind a door or wall and she was unarmed! She was also surrounded by other officers who did not see the least degree of danger from this young woman.

Self defense my a**. This was an execution, but yeah, he WAS just “doing his job” if you get my drift.

What foolish talk to come from a US Representative.

Our politicians knew that what they were doing was wrong.

They were certifying criminal behavior.

They ran because their guilty consciences told them to run.

A woman crouched and balancing on a window frame was a threat?

With no weapons?

Baloney.

Now, we have grade school quality theater with people talking, and crying, about how scary it was.

Guilty consciences.

After all the white police officers lambasted and canceled for complicated incidents involving a criminal suspect who happened to be black, how is it open and shut that an UNARMED woman much smaller than the DC officer who shot her to death HAD to be shot and killed? What “defense” was vitally required by the DC officer?

This Rep. is an enabler of a very shady character whether an FBI operative or a DC police officer (”anonymous”).

What if that Rep’s daughter was in a DOC protest someday against climate change or requiring voter ID and she turned her back to that officer? We should ALL have equal protection and responsibility under the same laws.
