The official goal, beginning Aug. 16, is to place COVID-19 on the same level as seasonal flu, with roughly similar measures for containment.
“With strong vaccine uptake, Alberta will gradually bring COVID-19 measures in line with other respiratory viruses to ensure health system capacity for the fall,” Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, said Wednesday....
“While COVID-19 cases may rise in the coming months, a surge of hospitalizations and other severe outcomes is much less likely thanks to vaccines,” Hinshaw added.
And so, the number of positive cases is no longer considered particularly important....
Asked what upper limit of daily cases the government would tolerate, Hinshaw didn’t give a number.
But other statistics really do matter.
As of Wednesday, 84 people were hospitalized with COVID-19, including 18 in intensive care. Hospitalizations aren’t rising at the pace of new cases, at this point, because of vaccination.
These calculations will lead on Aug. 16 to virtually complete lifting of restrictive measures. There will be no more provincial masking order and no requirement for masks in school, except in cases of outbreaks.
Testing of the asymptomatic is discouraged, including those who might be nervous about contact with a positive person but haven’t shown symptoms yet.
After Aug. 16, there will be no more isolation hotels or quarantine support. Testing centres will shut down, shifting the duties to doctors’ offices and primary care networks — or hospitals, if a person is really sick....

No, I think it’s just that they see a trend with the number of deaths and hospitalizations falling dramatically, compared to last summer
(BTW, every heath jurisdiction in North America can see that happening now, they just don’t want to talk about it, so they obsessively focus on the rising number of “cases”)
Like the article says, Alberta doesn’t care about “cases” anymore, only deaths and hospitalizations ... if everyone used that standard, this crisis would be effectively over

I think that in rural AB, WIPA could get seven or eight seats. I hope that they also get some seats in the urban areas.

He instructed his department to ‘make an example’ of Pastors who fail to obey his diktats on church closings for the CCP-Coronavirus Condemic. Not that I have much of a ‘say’ in the matter, but I will do everything that I can legally, to get him tossed out next election.
