CDC says fully vaccinated people spread the Delta variant and should wear masks: 'This new science is worrisome'

New science has again prompted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to update its mask guidelines. The CDC recommended on Tuesday that fully vaccinated people wear masks in public indoor settings "in areas with substantial and high transmission." That includes a large swath of the US right now, including the vast majority of counties in the South.

The CDC recommended that all teachers, staff, students, and visitors at K-12 schools mask up as well.

The goal of these new guidelines, CDC director Rochelle Walensky said, is to "help prevent the spread of the Delta variant and protect others."

The CDC said in May that vaccinated people don't need masks, a recommendation based partly on data indicating that vaccinated people were less likely to transmit the virus to others. But the Delta variant — now the dominant strain in the US — behaves differently than previous versions of the virus, Walensky said.

The majority of hospitalizations in America, where I live, are unvaccinated people.

I am not in the least bit worried about getting Covid. I'm vaccinated. I take care of myself. I'm not overweight. I'm active. I have no comorbidities.

The CDC isn't worried about me getting Covid. They're worried about me giving it to someone unvaccinated. As far as I see it, that's their problem. They had their chance to get vaccinated. Still do. Their health is not my responsibility and I shouldn't have to wear a mask to mitigate my risk to these people.

Depends. Israel's having a tough time right now with plenty of sick and dying from the Delta variant. Seems like the Pfizer vax doesn't work very well for Delta They had mass vaxxed but with Pfizer only.

Those of us who took the responsibility (and risk) to get vaccinated with the expectation that we would be able to enjoy some return to normality are now being punished by the absolute idiocy of this revised CDC guideline to protect those who didn't get vaccinated (for whatever their personal reason), and who quite frankly, could care less whether we are vaccinated or not.

When they ask me if I’ve been vaccinated I say “Yes, by live virus”, which is true.

I'm in a quandary here. I'd like to say I've been vaxxed with live virus... except I caught it from people who had been vaxxed. So not sure what to say.
