This was a runoff between to gop candidates. Dems voted to ‘get Trump’.
Democrats decided to vote for the Republican candidate.
They cheated.
Again.
Yes, democrats cheat on a regular basis... but crossing over to vote to disrupt the opposing party’s nomination is something highly encouraged on our side as well.
But it is likely that Dems picked the Republican candidate. Open primaries are just nuts.
Actually she was replaced by Denise Majette. That’s who we worked for to replace Cynthia. After 2 years, Denise’s eyes got big and she decided to go after the Senate seat being vacated by Zell Miller. Johnny Isakson crushed her in the general election. And Majette has since been disbarred as an attorney. The Dems sure pick some great candidates. She was still better than Cynthia.
Cynthia McKinney got the seat back due to Majette running for Senate and some favorable (for Cynthia) redistricting from the 2000 Census. Cynthia only served one term in this go-around, being beaten in the primary by Hank “Guam Tipping” Johnson in 2006.
"an issue"...meaning irrelevant, or meaning not allowed
Liz Cheney is smiling this morning.
Mark Davis says this guy is a fighter. We need those now.
Jake Pelley is NOT a Never Trumper. Please stop spreading this crap.
Club for Growth sent out negative mailer after mailer attacking Ellzey which turned people off big time. Ellzey had a distinguished service record as a fighter pilot and graduated from the Naval Academy. Trump should have stayed out of this race. Club for Growth, I was told, convinced Trump to endorse her.
Ellzey
My understanding is both are pro-Trump, America First. I’m good with this outcome.
Pretty easy to tell, by the number of Democrats casting ballots for the winning candidate vs dems for the losing candidate.
In a closed primary it becomes a bit more difficult since the registration has to be changed in order to vote.
Bill Kristol sent Ellzey $100 in 2018 when he was running against Ron Wright. Club for Growth attacked him and said he was backed by Never Trumpers. Their negative fliers and ads were way over the top.
Yes. I have never understood this. It opens up a primary to meddling by the opposite party."
Amazing how that works from coast to coast.
All voters are eligible in a special election or a special election runoff. The fact that both candidates are Republican is not a reason to exclude Democrats from the final vote. If both final candidates had been Democrat, Republicans could vote as well.
Does Texas do the jungle primary with runoffs in special elections? I knew that format was found in some Southern states, most notably Louisiana and Georgia, and had been adopted recently by California, but thought it mostly confined to the deeper South—I’m sure it isn’t used too much in Texas.
Dominion has spoken.
It was a local general election. Of course democrats could vote. Only primaries are closed at least in some states.
And the Dems called it cheating then, too.
I’m all for going back to caucusing - this entire primary system is stupid and ripe for manipulation. You join a party or you DON’T and everybody gets a say in the general election.
