The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on Monday become the first federal agency to require its frontline health care workers to be vaccinated.
President Joe Biden confirmed the move in a brief statement to reporters Monday afternoon.
'Yes. Veteran Affairs is going to in fact require that all docs working in facilities are going to have to be vaccinated,' Biden said, following a report quoting his Veterans Affairs secretary regarding health care workers at the VA.
115,000 staffers will have two months to get inoculated against the coronavirus, and face being fired if they do not oblige.
President Biden confirmed that 'all docs' at the VA would be asked to get the shot ahead of his meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in the Oval Office.
Denis McDonough, the secretary of veterans affairs, told the New York Times: 'I am doing this because it’s the best way to keep our veterans safe, full stop.
He added that the mandates would apply to the employees who have the most contact with patients.
This includes doctors, dentists, nurses, physicians assistants and physical therapists at VA medical centers across the country.
The Biden administration has so far been unwilling to back federal vaccine mandates, and has insisted it is up to private companies.
The move came after White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the White House 'supports the steps of hospitals' to require staff to get vaccinated, saying it 'could be a guide for us on what to do with our own workforce here from the federal government.'
She noted there are 'certain powers' that the federal government has, and 'certain powers that the federal government does not have.'

Good point! I thought the same thing. The VA is likely one government agency where most if not all are vaccinated.

A doctor did that with one of my children and the first dose of Gardasil (Sp?). We said no thank you. She argued we were making a poor decision. And then she did it anyway - added it with other injections we did approve. She was an interim doc filling in for our regular pediatrician. We didn’t realize until after the fact. It was good for her own safety, health, and well-being that she was no longer around after we found out.
I can tell you what is not misinformation and is 100% fact. Nowhere can you find and no one can tell you what the potential long term impacts/risks are for this vaccine. All vaccines carry this information because they’ve been around for decades and I feel safe taking them. For this one I’ll wait it out. Maybe I’ll be wrong and that is ok. However, if all those injected develop life altering complications 10 years from now I won’t be part of that crowd.
The risk profile of Ivermectin is very, very well known, many billions of doses have been used over 40 or so years, the risk profile looks similar to that of aspirin or Tylenol. This vs. an experimental EUA mRNA therapy that has little history of good results with low side effects. Arguably the biggest experiment in the history of medicine.
But if you are the VA, how are you going to make sure your employees are actually, daily taking the ivermectin you have mandated, as an anti-covid prophylactic?

Thanks. Yeah, I am NO FRIEND of the VA. I personally believe they have TOTALLY let down the Veterans of our armed forces. People who gave of their blood and lives and THIS is how we are treated. I have what they call Tricare for Life for those of us on Medicare. It is our backup insurance instead of having to buy another plan to support Medicare and they pay for our prescription drugs either through Walgreens, who has the contract, or through Express Scripts who is mail order. I have been in fights even with ES to get prescriptions. They deny the one the doctor orders for you, and say it is too expensive, YET THE STINKING US GOVERNMENT is giving illegals and non-US citizens FREE everything!!! Veterans have to fight for prescriptions also. BUT, we give illegals free prescriptions. We have to pay for them.

The hospital where I work has many intelligent, rational professionals who have chosen not to get the vaccine.

There are many opinions on this subject, of course. It does not help to lose ones cool though. Data and rational analysis are the correct approach to all problems and controversies.
Among other things, it also helps a lot to retain perspective. This Covid problem is not limited to the US, or to US politics.
This stuff is called a vaccine and it is approved as such in many other countries. The bureaucratic definitions and processes of the US government do not control discourse on this subject.
