I think the only way to end this once in for all is for a wealthy conservative or a group of conservative to launch a satellite into space.
By pass the internet ..satellite tv..the internet?
For the record, I did not select Breaking News when I posted this thread. Someone did that behind me.
My purpose, which others seem to have understood, was to alert FReepers that dissenters are using the courts to shut down websites that discuss COVID topics in ways that don't conform to the government-approved version of "facts".
I do run a sports-related website but, long before I took ownership, our leaders off-loaded the forum part to another board so, if confronted, I will say I have zero control of the forum and our FAQ says as much. That change proves smarter by the day.
This apparently was proposed and debated. The site founder believes in free speech. I don't know the man personally but I can tell you he probably disagrees with most of the junk posted in that part of the forum but believes that free expression should only be squelched when the poster has disregarded the forum rules too often.
Nobel principle... But so instead he would rather shut the whole thing down for everyone?
Seen it happen before. Guys starts a hobby website. It becomes popular, sells some ads, etc. Then somebody comes around threatening legal action and the site owner says “it was just a hobby - I can’t bankrupt my family fighting this in court”. In fact, the attackers are counting on that response.
Remember the baker in Colorado that wanted to refuse baking a wedding cake for two homosexuals on religious principles? Next, the two file a government complaint and the issue goes all the way up to the US Supreme Court before the guy finds any relief. So, then the attackers turn around and do the same thing with the baker over transgenders.
You have to have a really strong stomach to fight this if you want to stay in the game. You’ll find many who look at the odds and say “I’m out”.
If you were faced with expensive lawsuits what would you do Buckwheat?
Absolutely... Over the years I have also seen it many times in many different businesses. There is a point where it can be overwhelming. And unless you are willing to gamble everything you own for it you have no choice but to capitulate and accept your loses.
Most notable for me was years ago when the Vegas newspaper ran a poor old lady who had a pet cat lovers life and website into the ground for a couple years in a row just because she posted a small short excerpt from their website. She dropped the site immediately after being served, yet they still chased her for monetary compensation for two years.
Yeah he should just censor himself and just talk about the important things. Like the NFL.
Reply using the words of the Constitution, and tell the Judge to get back to where he belongs.
