As competition between the US and China and Russia ramps up, Africa is once more becoming a geopolitical battlefield.
US special-operations forces have long had a presence in Africa. Over the last 20 years, American commandos have focused on fighting terrorism, mainly in North and East Africa.
Now, in addition to fighting violent extremist groups, they have to counter Chinese and Russian overtures in a region where great powers are increasingly competing for access, influence, and resources. The US has a vastly different approach to Africa than its competitors.
Chinese aid, in the form of loans or infrastructure development, is often criticized as predatory and as part of Beijing's quest for natural resources and global legitimacy. Russia sells arms and provides political advisors in addition to hunting for lucrative contracts for natural resources and other geopolitical benefits.

How about “no” all around.
Add Democrats to that lists of enemies.
There is no such competition. The Chinese are far ahead of anybody else in terms of building infrastructure, railways, bridges etc in Africa, with Chinese money and Chinese engineers etc.
America hasn't really built much of anything in Africa the last two decades or so. Maybe a minor project or so.
Seconded.
Right you are, Joe. Much of any American aid to Africa — other than monetary handouts to crooked leaders — has come from non-profits and Christian missionaries. I buy my TP in bulk from a company that directs 50% of all profits to providing sanitary infrastructure to developing nations — toilets, septic tanks, clean water, etc.
We worry about Russia and china while allowing Boko to and the muzzies free reign.
He really means getting in bed with...
Oh no...not Africa
Business Insider. Uh-huh.
Great powers feuding over Africa has been done before. In the end Africa always wins.
China makes the European colonists look like missionaries. The have a simple formula. They buy off the reigning government officials, sign one sided, lopsided, exploitive contracts. They take whatever resources they need, have their own “private security”, tolerate absolutely no opposition and ship the resources wherever they want. The African people of course become poorer except for a few corrupt lowlifes at the top. This indeed will inevitably involve the United States. Very much doubt our current leaders will act effectively and soon the American people will be shedding blood and treasure in more quagmires.

The generals are always looking to expand a mission. Its good for their careers and post-military job prospects.
The US has no interests in Africa.
The closest thing I’ve heard from the despicable neocons regarding an interest is to “keep China out”.
Weak. Very, very weak.
We should just stand back and watch China get deeper into hell.
We should just stand back and watch China get deeper into the A/A hell holes.
A/A = Afghanistan and Africa!
You just described what China is doing to the US.
Yes, with the Chinese the regular Africans get hard floors, indoor plumbing, big TVs and automobiles.
That beats sacks of rice distributed by UN through ‘strange bedfellows’, accompanied by rape and murder.
The Russians are killing ‘bedfellows’ who are terrorizing the population, allowing the local governments to actually govern their countries without Soros interference, and the regular folks to live their lives without rape and murder.
Tell me some reasons why the Africans should like the West with its rice and bedfellows over Russia and China?
