Former Republican Sen. Bob Dole (Kan.) told USA Today in an interview that “I’m a Trumper,” before adding later that “I’m sort of Trumped out, though.”
Dole, the former Senate majority leader and Republican candidate for president in 1996, was one of the few individuals from the GOP establishment to endorse Trump in 2016, and was the only former presidential nominee to go to the convention that nominated him.
While he said he is still a “Trumper,” he did break from the former president on the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, telling USA Today “he lost the election.”

I remember Bob Dole saying that the root cause of crime was......criminals. Well duh.
Well. Most Democrats say it's because of White Racism.
Happy Birthday to Bob Dole!
May he live and be well.
Today is his birthday - July 22, 1923.
He's a good man, who did good in the World War II. I don't blame an old guy for not being informed.
Bob? Go take a nap
WOW, yu think yu can run the country better the PDJT then run for office and see how you do
Notably, Dole was one of the few establishment Republicans to strongly back Trump in both 2016 AND 2020 (and he wasn't doing it because he "had to" in order in order to get elected, like George Pee Bush did). Dole also backed the protests against Sore Loserman in 2000.
I was a Forbes man in '96, but looking back in hindsight, Dole was miles better than McCain or Romney.
I wish folks would consider his record, his age, and the absolute scum doing this article in a way to attack President Trump before criticizing Sen. Dole. As I said, these people are pure evil.
Patriotic American war heroes get a pass...
Now you know how I felt when Benedict XVI was Pope and FReepers did nothing but trash him for what the media CLAIMED he said, called him "NAZI Pope" (because he was FORCED to join Hilter Youth as a child), and posted memes like this:
Buchanan would have lost too, and probably done worse than Dole. Personality counts for as much or more as ideology, and Buchanan didn’t have the appeal Trump did. The economy also counts for a lot: Clinton was riding the tech boom and nobody was going to beat him.
The spit they’re to roast on is already reserved. But they’ll be turning the fire up another notch on this one.
It’ll be interesting when it comes time for Donald Trump to [ehem] dole out his endorsements.
I think your analysis is simply flawed.
Trump WON when everyone [hint: guys like you] said he would get creamed.
Dole LOST when guys like you called him “electable”.
Trump wrote a book about this titled, Winners Aren’t Losers.
Trump had the advantage of running against Hillary Clinton. Dole ran against her more formidable husband.
When Trump ran there had been decades of built-up tensions over trade and immigration. Twenty years before, those tensions hadn't reached the point where Buchanan could have made it to the White House.
Trump was also able to avoid some of the ideological entanglements that would have hurt Buchanan and others who have been in politics for a long time.
There is not fool-proof prescription for electing a president. When you run and who you run against matter as much as who you are and what you stand for.
I dont think he is an Estab. It just can get weak when it comes to this stuff. He doent understand the Dems turn the most dangerous Republicans into the lightning rod of criticism as a standard political move. He got this way when Newt was running and said he didnt understand how the media went after Newt and said it disqualified Newt... Dumb. He doesnt get it. He never got it.
As I pointed out, Trump WON and Dole LOST. That has far more bearing and weight than the minor points you bring up.
