The Biden administration is expected to drop the US's years-long opposition to a new natural gas pipeline between Russia and Germany as early as today, earning swift backlash from top Republicans.
'This is a terrible mistake, it's a mistake that's opposed by both parties in Congress. It's just another example of the pathetic appeasement of Joe Biden for Vladimir Putin,' Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton said on Fox News Wednesday.
On top of 'costing' American jobs, Cotton claims the move empowers Russia and 'badly undercuts our allies and partners in Eastern Europe like Poland and Ukraine, who Joe Biden is now apparently pressuring to stay silent.'

Just when we think Biden couldn’t sink any lower, he sinks lower.
I really don’t get this attitude. Why the hell would the USA ever have the right to “approve” or “permit” the construction of a pipeline between two sovereign nations who both want it???
Also we are supposedly “protecting” the Ukrainians who make a habit of stealing the gas that they are paid to transport (this is proven). Why would the Russians be required to pass their production along a road that is owned by bandits? Lots of four letter words that are appropriate to use here to refer to the Ukrainian government.
russia, russia, russia
Do not get fooled by the usual BIFF, BAM, POW journalism. The US cannot ”permit” or ”forbid” the construction of the pipe-line, and this was not the way the previous administration framed it, although the journos may have done so.
What was being discussed was how much the German dependency on Russian gas would weaken NATO, and secondly why the USA should assist (with lots of money) Germany in defence against Russia while Germany on the other hand willingly puts itself in a situation where Russia will yield power over her, and also increases Russia’s revenue that can and will be used to increase Russia’s military power.
Those discussions appear to have ended with a silent whimper from the Biden administration.
Why is Putin opening the Hunter Biden Petroleum Institute Art Gallery in Moscow?
It’s part of the NATO treaty/alliance.
Per the agreement with each other, NATO member states have a say in economic and military alliances and actions of the other member states.
Trump stood up to Russia, Biden’s bending over
You don’t hear Germany insisting for the US to stop buying Mexican avocados for the German alternative though.
Figures. The ONE THING that Biden is doing right, which is giving the Russians the power over Germany to (hopefully) prevent Germany from repopulating itself with ‘refugees’ is attacked by Republicans.
...on the other hand, I don’t mind taking cheap shots at Democrats, they deserve it, considering the way they’ve been bashing Trump.
If Mexican joined the Russian alliance and avocados poised a strategic threat, you would.
And, of course, Germany and every NATO state has leveraged the treaty obligations for its economic interest. Germany routinely interferes with chemical and heavy industry purchases. They just don’t make news because the MSM hates the USA.
That said, the real thing going on is Germany, Russia, Turkey are all aligning back to the Central Powers days. WWI all over again.
Hmmm......maybe if you exchange Austria-Hungary for Russia, but I would liken it more to the events of 1920s and 1930s. The Rapallo treaty etc.
Hunter Biden now has dealings with Russia’s Gazprom energy company. And yes, Joe is getting his 10%
Gazprom... 10% for the big guy!!!
Could you, please, explain why Russia would ever think of doing that? The ”redugees” will not make up a strenthened Wehrmacht, but at best act as an economic ballast, and at worst cause internal strife in Germany. Hardly anything that Russia sees as threatening its interests.
That pipeline is none of our business. The cold war is over. We should not be trying to protect Germany — against her will — from Russia, a nation that in many ways is less degenerate than Germany.
My personal belief is that NATO is obsolete, and should have been dissolved when the Warsaw Pact dissolved. Russia is not the enemy. I would like to see a new alliance created that INCLUDES Russia, excludes Turkey, and is oriented against the East (China, etc.).
The bigger issue (and in my opinion, the REAL issue, with the political leverage issue being an excuse) is that Ukraine has been getting a huge amount of money for gas transit (and stealing non-trivial amounts of gas while they are at it), and the new pipeline cuts off that gravy train.
From my perspective, I've said it again, and I will say it again. **** the Ukrainian government. We shouldn't be allied with that corrupt garbage heap of a government.
Republicans are upset? Smells like another strongly worded letter.
