In a move both Democrats and Republicans warn is harming U.S. diplomacy, Sen. Ted Cruz is blocking nominees from being confirmed for "vital" State Department roles to make a political point, CNN reports.
Half a year into the Biden administration, just six State Department candidates have been confirmed on the Senate floor, while Cruz's obstructionism has left 60 more in a holding pattern, according to the news organization.
Cruz is using his position on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to block votes on nominees so he can protest the White House giving a sanctions waiver to a company building a Russian gas pipeline, …
The only way to overcome Cruz's repeated objections is for Dems to maneuver around a filibuster for each nomination, the sources said. Tempers have already begun to fray as Cruz digs in his heels…

Aw, too bad. Maybe the Demon Rats shouldn’t have blocked Trump’s appointments.
Good on him.
The corporate liberals in the GOP are upset.
GOPe accomplices, as per usual.
What goes around comes around
RINOs!!!!! It’s the new curseword.
Dude... the bush league chamber of commerce worshipping republiCANT’S are the ones that blocked President Trump’s nominee’s...
I doubt any of these jobs are vital
The fight is over. Biden kissed Merkel’s ——— already.
Atta boy Ted
Good for Ted.
What is good for the goose is good for the gander - as I recall so many past instances where some Dim senators did the same thing. As long as the Senate rules allow what Cruz is doing, the Dims complaints are hypocritical.
However, I am opposed to what Cruz is doing in general, and would prefer it never be allowed at all.
The rule that allows it stretches the concept of “with approval of the Senate” and gathers the power of the whole entire Senate and allows it to be used by a single Senator independently. To me it betrays the concept of “democratic” body acting as a “democratic” body, and gives a dictatorial power to each Senator. It - the power - ought to be eliminated. The place to block executive nominations ought to only be in the votes in the committees and the votes by the whole Senate, not left in the hands of lone Senators acting independently.
However, again, as long as the Dims are not in favor of eliminating that power, I can’t entirely blame Cruz for doing what he knows Dims will do, and have done, when they have the chance.
I wish the whole country was “fruitless”.
The majority of the pubbies just roll over like wet suits. Good for Cruz.
There is no compromise.
That is what the pubbies (R) have failed to understand for at least a few decades. The pubbies have not understood the argument is not about how we manage our form of giverment but what form of giverment we have. It is a battle of ideology and not politics. The only political battle is for the vote of the uncommitted and brainless 6% in the middle. Other than that the opposing forces are established but the pubbies have not realized the other side is at war that can have only one successful outcome and that is the elimination of the opponent. I think they don’t even care about changing minds anymore and neither should we.
We are a nation at war but only one side is fighting.
