This coming week, many professional political observers expect to see former Detroit Police Chief, James Craig, enter the Republican primary for governor of Michigan. Some within the state’s GOP establishment are celebrating the news. They shouldn’t because the math actually shows that a Craig nomination would ensure four more years of Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Let’s start with the good news: Governor Whitmer is losing to the generic Republican. The bad news? James Craig underperforms the generic Republican. And that’s before voters learn that he is weak on the Second Amendment; was the enforcer-in-chief of Whitmer’s draconian, unconstitutional lockdowns; and is celebrated by Democrats for his sanctuary city policies.
A public poll released in June shows incumbent Whitmer’s image and job approval declining among Michigan voters, driving an 11-point deficit to a “generic Republican.” The Michigan GOP released a poll through Charlie Leduff within the same week (June 8, 2021) showing James Craig underperforming the generic Republican.

Maybe James Craig is a wolf in sheep’s clothing but every time I’ve heard him speak on Tucker Carlson’s show, he seems pretty normal....
Here’s my point, if he wants to run as a Republican then let him, I don’t like listening to some supposed Republican telling me who can win and who can’t win....
If we listened to this type of rhetoric, Donald Trump would never been POTUS, how man of these so called Republican Experts told us Trump had no chance of winning a primary much less the nomination, but he did.
Once that happened, Trump was supposed to be destroyed in the election but he wasn’t....so don’t listen to these people...

Proof please. He’s been pro 2A since the day he got hired. Do you remember when Detroit was burning down and being looted like Minneapolis and Seattle? Yeah, me neither, because it didn’t happen. Chief Craig wouldn’t put up with it. This sounds like a hit piece put out by Whitmer herself.

IIRC, he is something of a 2A convert because after serving a few years in Los Angeles or somewhere like that, he was a sheriff in Maine where everybody has guns but there is very little or no violent crime.
RINOs are such losers that the other side is trying to pin RINO tails on viable candidates. But our RINOs can’t see what even. the democrats can see.

Nobody should believe a word of this article. He is not soft on the 2nd Amendment. He was the guy who told the law abiding people of Detroit to buy a gun and defend themselves and shoot the criminals. This is an article by an outlet that is for RINOs by RINOs.
Gopes don’t like to or want to be in power. Much easier to back-bench. The votes against Obamacare and no action on replacing it when they could is a great example of this behavior.

Agree - the article reads more like a campaign ad from someone else who wants the nomination than anything useful. And great point about Trump...if our GOP masters are whining, it means we’re over the target.
The only Republican presidents of the past 40 years that were worth anything (a lot) were Reagan and Trump. Both were ex-Democrats. The Republican presidents of the past 40 years who were worthless (Bushes, Sr. and Jr.) were lifelong Republicans. People and their beliefs can and do change; oftentimes, the convert is a much stronger advocate of their adopted views.
That is so true. The R base has for far to long allowed RINOs to make our choices for us, I think those days are rapidly coming to an end.
My friend who’s lived in the Det area for a couple years likes the guy and was talking him up to me last time I saw him.
Yeah but he doesn’t seem as sharp as he was when he was chief. Seems like his energy level and focus has gone downhill a little. Might just be the real him in retirement mode and he can get right back into work mode. Does he have what it takes to live in the snake pit that is politics? There’s a lot more complexity to running a state so he’d probably end up in the same position as Trump having to rely on people who are political animals to give it to him straight. All those unelected bureaucrats, most of whom are probably left leaning along with some mini RINOs.
Political elites prefer to lose elections rather than lose control over their party. See the 2020 elections as a prime example of this phenomenon.
