Yes, Ted Cruz Was Born in Canada. So What?
NBC ^ | March 24, 2015

Posted on 07/18/2021 11:18:02 PM PDT by conservative98

Sen. Ted Cruz hadn’t been an official contender for the presidency of the United States for 12 hours before the questions started coming, even in the warm and welcoming cradle of a primetime interview before what should be the friendliest of conservative audiences.

“You were born in Calgary, in Canada,” FOX News host Sean Hannity asked him, glancing into the camera for an apologetic chuckle. “Is there a birth certificate issue?”

It’s a question that’s lurked around the edges of Cruz’s political profile ever since the junior senator gained enough notoriety to be mentioned as a presidential candidate. Google searches for “Ted Cruz Canadian” spiked in October 2013 as he led Republicans towards a government shutdown; the query jumped again on Monday as he announced his White House run.

And some of it is friendly fire. Donald Trump, famed skeptic of prominent pols’ citizenship paperwork, didn’t resist the urge to tweak his fellow Republican on Monday night when making his own appearance on FOX’s primetime programming.

“I hope he knows what he's doing, but I thought you had to be born in the country,” he suggested to interviewer Megyn Kelly, adding that Cruz has “one extra level of complication” because of how long he maintained dual citizenship with both the United States and our kindly neighbors to the north.

Cruz is far from the first – or even the second – White House wannabe whose birthplace has launched quizzical headlines about his fitness to inhabit the White House. Even before the Obama “birther” movement, John McCain’s eligibility was questioned because he was born on a military base in the Panama Canal Zone.

Similar queries were made of Gov. George Romney (dad of Mitt and presidential contender in 1968), who was born in Mexico to U.S. citizen parents.

Citizenship requirements are only for non-democrats.

Ted Cruz meets one of my preferences in a senator running for, well,
anything…

They should be one of the six that objected to the steal on January 6th.

(Even though I suspect he only did so for optics and I really don’t like him much.)

The rest need to be replaced as soon as practical.

Neither Ted Cruz nor Kamala are natural born citizens.
Constitution must be amended to make them eligible.

Obama was not eligible either.

Rather than defending Constitution, Cruz is saying: I can ignore the requirement just as Democrats did. He legitimized Obama’s steal of US presidency.

Revolutionary: What law says that?

No we cannot cut it out. You can join the crowd “looting the store”, justifying it in your eyes that everyone is doing it, yet it will not make it right.

1. Naturalization law from 1790 was amended in 1795, the only change was elimination of the clause allowing people like Ted Cruz to be considered as natural born citizens.

2. The only SCOTUS case that mentioned NBC phrase is
Minor vs Happerset:
“…The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners. Some authorities go further and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first…”

The NBC phrase was included into Constitution to ensure that people with foreign allegiance at birth are NOT allowed as commander-in-chief of US military.

The only definition that makes sense is the one where there is no doubt that child has one and only one natural allegiance at birth to USA: born in the country of citizen parents.

This is a simple logic. Lawyers use fancy language to obfuscate things from regular folks.

3. Mark Levin may rot in Hell for his role in attacking “birthers”. It is one thing to have a difference of opinion; he chose to use vicious language against people questioning Obama’s eligibility.

-- The Ted is not a NBC is so tiresome and they never show any proof that he is not a NBC. --

LOL. The "proof"? Well, is there any disagreement he was born in Canada to a US citizen mother and Cuban citizen father? Any dispute that his birth cert shows Canada?

I haven't seen any document that shows his parents followed procedure to get the birth registered at US State Department. Granted, a formality.

Are you up to speed on what the law says - not what the so-called experts say, but what the case law says?

As if you have an open mind.

He's not eligible, period. People who argue otherwise are utterly nonsensical. It's borderline retarded to even argue he could be. Do you think the founders would have been ok with someone with duel citizenship serving as the President?

If you shoot with the same "precision" as you think, you have already shot off both of your feet.

You start with an OPINION, PERIOD.

You back it up by calling people that disagree with your opinion, nonsensical and retarded.

Lastly, you ax a question {duel citizenship} about which you cannot possibly know the answer.

There are multiple sides to this question and it's been argued here at FR ad nauseam, but you argue like a demonRAT, simply call people names.

How can walk without feet?

If Kamala Harris is eligible to serve and is already VP so can Ted Cruz.

Kamala Harris is not eligible and stands as testimony to the banana republic.

Have we determined if Ted’s father was involved in the JFK assassination?

You can't pay me enough to:

A) Care about Cruz or

B) Vote for him.

He proved who he was during the 2016 election primaries and more recently when he ran away to Cancun. Ted is in it for Ted, he's just like the rest of them.

There are two types of citizenship, natural born and naturalized. The constitution Article 1 Secction 8 says that The Congress shall have Power To … establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization. This power is specifically given to congress, which is why the courts are reluctant to take it up. There are not very many possible combinations and there is a list in The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. Congress has the authority to define who is naturalized and who is not. They can change the rules whenever they want. Winston Churchill would have been a citizen if he were born today. They mention the citizenship of the father and the mother, the birthplace. There is an exemption for children of foreign diplomats born on American soil. Not only are they not natural born, they are not even U.S. citizens. What to do with birth on American territory?

Congress is very thorough listing all the combinations except one. Born on American soil of citizen parents. Congress can naturalize a child at birth simply by passing a law. It is still citizenship by law. If there is a question about your citizenship and Congress thought it was necessary to pass a law to answer that question, you are not natural born.

Citizenship by “nature” is not something Congress has authority over. Will we allow them to amend the Constitution by editing the dictionary?
