A Covid Vaccine Crossroads: You can oppose government mandates but still favor mass vaccination.
Wall Street Journal ^ | July 15, 2021 | WSJ Editorial Board

Posted on 07/18/2021 7:32:58 AM PDT by karpov

Vaccines are the great success of the pandemic. Americans should be celebrating these breakthrough innovations that U.S. industry produced at breakneck speed. But instead even vaccines are becoming another front in the culture war.

About 65% of Americans over the age of 12 and nearly 90% of those 65 and older have received at least one dose. Widespread inoculations have resulted in plunging cases, hospitalizations and deaths in recent months even as most states lifted their lockdowns and mask mandates.

Cases have fallen by some 90% and hospitalizations nearly as much since their January peak. Deaths are 95% lower, and hospitals have more room to admit less ill patients. Returns are diminishing on each new vaccination as herd immunity approaches, but the societal goal should still be to vaccinate as many adults as possible. The more vaccinations, the lower the chance that breakouts this fall and winter could burden the hospital system and result in lockdowns.

Most Americans believe the personal benefits from vaccination outweigh the potential risks. Governments haven’t needed to resort to coercion, though some have tried to prod people with financial incentives. Yet the question now is what to do about the third of Americans who haven’t been vaccinated, especially as the Delta variant spreads.

Experts have been guilty of overplaying the risk of new variants to justify lockdowns. But the Delta variant deserves special caution. It is estimated to be more than twice as contagious as the original strain. The Pfizer vaccine is also between 10% and 30% less effective in blocking transmission of the variant, though it still appears to be more than 90% protective against severe illness.

If anyone forces an injection on my family.. even if it’s an injection of the Christmas spirit .. that’s a direct assault. I’ll respond accordingly.

I chose to get "the jab" because I have a co-morbidity and consulted with my doctor about it.

So here's the deal: anyone who tries forcing the shot on you and your family, I'll be right there to repel their assault on your personal freedom. I respect your choice, hope you respect mine.

This has been my position from day one.

The Chinese vaccine is not authorized in the US. Neither is the Atrazeneca, out of the UK and heavily used elsewhere. Both use the traditional vector.

The J&J vaccine uses the traditional vector, and is authorized for use in the US, and has been for months, with widespread news coverage. If the messenger RNA is a problem, get the J&J.

IDK. That’s beyond my paygrade. The default is like most things made in China, it’s junk.

Noravax has a more traditional vaccine waiting for approval likely this fall. Rest assured though, the Q patrol will be along shortly to explain how it’ll make you grow moth wings in a few years though.

Proven vaccines - yes

Experimental - no

Actually the J&J and AstraZeneca are not traditional vaccines. They work on the same basic principle as Pfizer and Moderna except they use an adenovirus as the vector. They still “trick” your cells into producing the virus proteins.

People who have been “vaccinated” make up 47% of the new Covid cases in Great Britain.

That could be because the delta variant has taken over in Britain and the vaccines are only about 64% effective against that variant. There is now also delta plus, which is even worse, elsewhere on the planet.

I dread to see what will happen when this variant takes over NY (it is now about 60 plus % of all cases) and sweeps through the typically unvaccinated in the ultra Orthodox and black communities.

Because they invented the “vaccine” first, then the disease. This was a money/power ploy all along. Over a trillion dollars spent with not a lot to show for it except RICH Pharma Execs and shareholders.

Our conversation is how a conversation should be.

Our world is full of options. It can be hard for some people to watch other people choose differently.

The J&J is much more like traditional gene therapy than the mRNA vaccines as it’s delivered precisely the same way.

Both instruct cellular production of the targeted spike protein. The viral vector J&J by delivering DNA instructions straight to the cell nucleus to create the RNA instructions for the cytoplasm to produce the spike protein. mRNA skips that step entirely staying out of the nucleus.

The Novavax looks interesting.

https://www.pharmaceutical-technology.com/features/novavaxs-vaccine-covid19-results/

Definitely more like a traditional vax in that your cells don’t produce the virus proteins.

It can be hard for some people to watch other people choose differently.

Agree. It's hard to read some of the threads on here with both sides going at it tooth and nail like each other is the enemy.

It's a choice. It should always be a choice. That's freedom. I've also always said either this vaccine works or it doesn't. If I'm vaccinated and your not, why should I worry? Why should you worry?

I've also always said if someone is otherwise healthy with no co-morbidities, why would they take the shot? Why should they?

I know people who caught the China Virus and had no more than the sniffles and a mild fever for a few days. A few of them in their 70's and one with diabetes (a co-morbidity) who recovered just fine.

I also know a few people who caught it and ended up in the hospital because of it. Both had breathing issues and were otherwise healthy w/o any co-morbidities.

Finally, I also know a few people who lost loved ones because of it. One's a friend who lost her mother. Another is a co-worker who was married to the first Chicago Cop who died of the China Virus. He was considered healthy and fit. Why it took him, who knows?

If I was otherwise healthy and didn't have the genetic condition I have, I wouldn't have taken the shot. I really wouldn't have. I'd have taken my chances because they're really quite small for anyone to catch it and die from it, considering the tens of millions of people who had it and recovered from it vs. those who died.

I tried like hell to talk my GF out of getting it, she did it because she was afraid of catching it and giving it to me. I disagreed with her over it because we both took reasonable precautions and I did all the things I could do to boost my natural immunity and much of those things I read here on FR.

I think it's great you and I can have this conversation here on FR and not be going after each other like it's a holy war or something.

Stay healthy and best to you and your family.

Isolation of infected, quarantines for people that might be infected are government mandates and they’re NOT government overreach. State of emergencies are implicit in the constitution, quarantines were enforced by militia for much of US history.

Public health should not be a partisan issue.

Sure does.

Maybe between it and expanded immunity from exposure to this new, highly infectious Indian variant, enough people will be immune to end this thing.

"While everyone is focused on COVID and arguing that there is no virus or that it is easily treated without vaccination, they are missing the real objective – our descent into a state of tyrannical psychosis that creates the totalitarian rule.

"The totalitarian state has a standard playbook:

First, they need to create fear.

This is then followed by terrorizing the people.

Lastly, they will then seek power by offering solutions that require the surrender of all your rights for security.

This is what Ben Franklin was really referring to.

I am so glad you are comfortable.

Everybody should do stupid stuff to make sure you and your off spring are comfortable.

Or how about.... no.

You can oppose government mandates but still favor mass vaccination.

Nope.

If 100% of the population is vaccinated then 100% of covid deaths would be amongst the vaccinated. Meaningless.
