I was going to buy a car...mine is 18 years old. Can’t do it now. Prices are crazy.
My car is 23 years old, an old Toyota Corolla. Still runs great.
I’m driving a 24 year old 4x4-a Toyota 4Runner that I bought used 8 years ago-I always drive a 4x4 SUV or pickup because of my work and I live where plenty of roads are not paved-I take good care of my vehicle and like the fact that it does not spy on me, keep track of my location, etc, etc-I will never have a new 4x4 because it does all of those things-and the mechanics out here are used to working on old SUVs and pickups, anyway-the price of gas is through the roof, but it isn’t that much of a gas hog...
My 16 year old car needs a new torque converter and I can’t afford it.
Can’t afford to buy another used car either.
These bastards have destroyed us.
We have an F150 4x4 with a 5.4 liter that gets about 15-16mpg so not too long after the inauguration, we went out and got a Focus that gets 30mpg. I figured this obama’s third term so gas prices are probably going up to the obama days.
I’m actually more of a Chevy guy but I can’t find a deal on one here in MO. Lots of Ford lovers here and they don’t hold their value like a Chevy does. Speaking mostly of trucks. I don’t know if Chevy even makes a decent small car.
The F150 is 2001 and the Focus a 2005 but all we can afford is low three digit prices. $3k for the Focus is the most we’ve ever paid for a vehicle. Luckily I can work on them. 150k miles on it but they go well over 200k so we’ll be able to drive it for five years or so. It will probably pay for itself in two years.
I’ve got a Chevy 2wd truck plus a Trailblazer to sell this year. Ought to help put food on the table. Keeping the F150 4x4 for winters. Sucker’s got 280,000 miles on it but still drives nice, interior’s not falling apart and no rust on it.
Just started a little garden bed to rush a couple of warm weather plants. Need to get the real garden going for some fall crops. I’m putting a high tunnel up this year so I can extend the growing season up to two months on each end. With row covers, you can grow hardy greens all winter. Got a spot picked out for a root cellar.
Working on our own meat supply too. Bought three meat goats with stimulus money last Spring. Need small breed of pasture pigs to go with them. Eventually the goats and pigs will be a little income after filling the freezer. Got laying hens. Got a breeding pair of LGDs so I can sell their pups at some point to help pay for their food.
That’s the way things are going to have to go for anyone who’s poor but has the land. Produce as much of your own food as you can.
My 18-year-old car had a KBB trade-in value of $500. I traded it in for new car. I paid cash, $400 under MSRP — out the door.
Rather Trumpian, if I do say so myself.
Just kidding, had to slip that in there before CNN did it.
I’m putting some money into our 2006 Nissan Sentra with 152,000 miles on it, mostly suspension work plus a new windshield. Hoping to keep it going for at least 2-3 years, then we’ll see.
My daughter had an 18 year old car. It ran great but she’s single and lives a few hours from us. A breakdown would be challenging.
She bought a 2017 Hyundai from a friend at trade in cost just before prices skyrocketed.
She just sold her old car and got about $500 more than I thought she would.
Perfect market timing.
Prices are crazy.
Selection is worse.
