We have an F150 4x4 with a 5.4 liter that gets about 15-16mpg so not too long after the inauguration, we went out and got a Focus that gets 30mpg. I figured this obama’s third term so gas prices are probably going up to the obama days.

I’m actually more of a Chevy guy but I can’t find a deal on one here in MO. Lots of Ford lovers here and they don’t hold their value like a Chevy does. Speaking mostly of trucks. I don’t know if Chevy even makes a decent small car.

The F150 is 2001 and the Focus a 2005 but all we can afford is low three digit prices. $3k for the Focus is the most we’ve ever paid for a vehicle. Luckily I can work on them. 150k miles on it but they go well over 200k so we’ll be able to drive it for five years or so. It will probably pay for itself in two years.

I’ve got a Chevy 2wd truck plus a Trailblazer to sell this year. Ought to help put food on the table. Keeping the F150 4x4 for winters. Sucker’s got 280,000 miles on it but still drives nice, interior’s not falling apart and no rust on it.

Just started a little garden bed to rush a couple of warm weather plants. Need to get the real garden going for some fall crops. I’m putting a high tunnel up this year so I can extend the growing season up to two months on each end. With row covers, you can grow hardy greens all winter. Got a spot picked out for a root cellar.

Working on our own meat supply too. Bought three meat goats with stimulus money last Spring. Need small breed of pasture pigs to go with them. Eventually the goats and pigs will be a little income after filling the freezer. Got laying hens. Got a breeding pair of LGDs so I can sell their pups at some point to help pay for their food.

That’s the way things are going to have to go for anyone who’s poor but has the land. Produce as much of your own food as you can.

I had an Impala....and then a Monte....Life was good. I’m in a 2003 Buick Century...and I’m the proverbial little old lady...73,000 original miles.
