South Africa mustered its army reserves in a bid to quell several days of looting that has ravaged supplies of food and other essentials and dealt a crippling blow to its economy.
The disorder slowly began to ebb across most affected provinces on Thursday before an expected surge in soldiers on the streets.
“All reserve members are to report for duty at first light tomorrow morning 15 July 2021 at their respective units,” army chief Lieutenant-General Lawrence Mbatha said in orders issued overnight as the unrest entered its sixth day.
Soldiers should “report ready with their necessary equipment”, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
The soldiers were expected in the hotspots of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces, where the police and the army have been battling the disorder for days.

Too little, too late. The race war has already begun, they’ve already destroyed the infrastructure for the water supply in many places and there will be a famine in Africa because of the looting and destruction of farms.

Eventually the Chinese will restore order, economic stability and South Africa’s GNP will be reported to grow. There will be a stability of sorts. The leaders will have rather large Swiss bank accounts. The people of South Africa will become poorer. Soon South African coal will generate electricity in Shanghai. Armed Chinese security will enforce the contracts and protect the investments. There will be no protests from enviormentalists. the EU or American governments, the UN, academia, big tech or anyone else. BTW, China is doing this all over Africa.
The difference is, for now, that the South African government actually WANTS to end the violence.
Once the Democrats here are able to get rid of the filibuster and then take the guns, they will DEMAND similar violence to ‘finish the job’ here...as they already showed that in Portland and other cities last summer - they had no interest in stopping the violence.
