The Food and Drug Administration is preparing to announce a new warning for the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine saying the shot has been linked to a serious but rare side effect called Guillain-Barré syndrome, in which the immune system attacks the nerves, according to four individuals familiar with the situation.
About 100 preliminary reports of Guillain-Barré have been detected in vaccine recipients after the administration of 12.8 million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement Monday. The cases have largely been reported about two weeks after vaccination and mostly in men, many aged 50 and older. Most people fully recover from Guillain-Barré.
The warning on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be the latest blow to a shot that had been eagerly anticipated because of its ease of use — it requires only a single dose, which makes it especially helpful in immunizing harder-to-reach populations and regions. But the vaccine has been plagued by problems, including massive stumbles at its U.S. manufacturing plant.

This rare “syndrome” is most often attributed to a person who has the flu. As I’ve always said this is/was a severe flu year worldwide.
Repeating the problems with the 1976 Swine Flu vaccine. Seems like there would be a way to test someone BEFORE they got a shot.
Have had the chronic form of Guillain-Barré since my first and last flu shot in 1999. Hasn’t been fun.

I will not be getting any jab. But I think 100 in 12+ million is pretty low risk. Even if it is 1000. In the TV ads for various medicines a lot of time is spent on the risks “Using this may cause....”. I wonder what the numbers are on those complications for everyday medicines?
I’m more concerned with the “unknown unknowns” or however that speech went is that Rumsfield put it prior to going into Iraq.

I was sitting in a dentist chair today and the dental assistant asked me point blank if I was vaccinated.
I have always been fast on my feet and under pressure, and I blurted out:
“Not yet, I am waiting for the pill.”
That seemed to keep her calm—did not want her to take out any hostility on my teeth. :-)
Next visit I will have to come up with another clever excuse.

I also believe that many of the Covid cases/deaths were from influenza, as happens every year. It's become obvious that Covid deaths included anyone with similar symptoms (flu, cold, respiratory ailments, even strokes) as all medical types would first test for Covid. How can F&cski and others say that the flu just disappeared this year?
I am not letting anyone inject me with experimental drugs, but than I'm 71 and rarely leave the house. I'll wear the stupid worthless mask if required.

I’d say a wise decision to not get the vaccine, not necessarily due to age. I’ve got a friend whose dad had the vaccine and is currently in the hospital. Thought he had a stroke but that has been ruled out I think as they’re now running cardiology tests. He got vaccinated I think about 6 weeks ago. Could be a complication. Could not be but at this point who really knows.
Ironically he, the father, has a friend in the same hospital for confirmed complications due to the vaccine. I forgot the name of the condition but it is supposedly a condition that would normally only affect children. These folks are in their late 60’s early 70’s.

I was a lucky one re % and getting Guillain-Barré syndrome after my 1976 Swine Flu Vaccine.
My main side effect is on my right check re minor pain and tics if I get tired in the evening. Lately that can occur from about 9:30 or later.
It is a dull pain, and it disappears after a few breathing exercise in bed. My CPAP machine helps with the heating system set at 65-70 degrees. Also, a simple OTC jaw spacer/dental guard helps.
Guillain-Barre (gee-YAH-buh-RAY) syndrome is a rare disorder in which your body’s immune system attacks your nerves. Weakness and tingling in your extremities are usually the first symptoms. These sensations can quickly spread, eventually paralyzing your whole body.
