A Pennsylvania man was severely injured after trying to launch a firework from his groin on July 4th, Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department report.
Police were called a little before 10:30 p.m. Sunday to assist an ambulance called for a firework-related injury with heavy bleeding at a home on Summit Drive in Mount Pocono.
Police said there was a “large gathering at the home,” and aerial fireworks were being discharged as officers arrived.
Antonio Giannelli was inside the house, and had suffered injuries and burns after he attempted to launch a rocket from his groin, police said. Police said the 37-year-old from Wilkes-Barre was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital for treatment.
Giannelli faces a citation for discharging fireworks in violation of Mount Pocono firework ordinances, the department said.
Four years after Pennsylvania began allowing residents to buy more powerful fireworks, this July Fourth weekend was marked by death, injuries and fires.
One child died and another was being treated for burns following a duplex fire caused by discarded fireworks, West York fire officials said. A family of eight in Wilkes-Barre was displaced after a firework landed on their back porch and destroyed their home, according to WNEP.
But fireworks and related injures are not contained to holidays. On June 20, an Emmaus man was lighting fireworks in a pickup truck and trying to toss them out a window, police said. He failed to get rid of one in time, and was critically injured in the ensuing blast inside the truck, police said.
Since 2017, state lawmakers have unsuccessfully tried to repeal the fireworks law.
The most recent attempt is by state Rep. Peter Schweyer, D-Lehigh, and would make consumer-grade fireworks illegal to purchase and use in Pennsylvania.
If he would have claim he was celebrating gay pride he would have been let go.
;-)
Oh, my. The pain. It burns.
“Hey everybody watch me blow up my dick”
In my county there were numerous brush fires and two house fires, including the fatal fire mentioned in this story.
The PA law prohibits launch within 150 of a structure which pretty much rules out any urban/suburban area.
Will be charged?
Seems to be all fired up even before being charged.
Another reason seat belts are mandatory.
Ay, caramba!
I think he should be released, hasn’t he already suffered enough?
“I got a rocket in my pocket!”
Was he a father?
Post of the day.
Yes, that too!
Must have been a crotch rocket.
Inquiring minds want to know: was alcohol involved?
“I assume adult beverages were involved?”
Four words Giannelli said before making this attempt....
“Here, hold muh beer.”
“Steve! Quit clenching!”
Hasn’t he already been punished enough?
