"Hillbilly Elegy" author J.D. Vance, who has come under fire after announcing his candidacy for Senate in Ohio because of comments and tweets he had made in 2016 about former President Donald Trump, told Newsmax Thursday that his critics are "phoneys" who consider him a "threat to the establishment."
"I've been very open about this," said Vance on Newsmax's "Wake Up America." "I think that the president did a good job and cared about issues that I cared about. He served people that I cared about and he made the country a better place."
Vance recently joined the crowded field of candidates hoping to succeed retiring Sen. Rob Portman, and quickly came under criticism.
He said he thinks that many of those attacking him for what he said five years ago are attacking him because he's bringing serious issues to the forefront, "like the back and forth that I had with Google yesterday about how in bed they are with the Chinese Communist Party... I think people were attacking me because they recognize I can bring issues like that to the forefront. Not because you know, I changed my mind like so many people do."
Meanwhile, Vance has been deleting some tweets but insisted people shouldn't read much into that.

He needs to tread lightly on this topic. I’m in the midst of deciding whether or not to go for this guy. Jane Timken is basically Ronna Romney and Josh Mandel seems unstable.
A long time till voting day, so we’ll see.

Nothing says “openness” like deleting the Never Trump tweets. This guy is still digging and his defensiveness is a huge red flag.

That to me is enough to NOT support him if I lived in Ohio. He sounds like a total phoney to me. How could anyone think Egg McMuffin was a conservative?

i was pretty sure before that this guy was a RINO/Bushite who was willing to say anything to get votes and who has been flip-flopping back and forth on his support for Trump (which means he does NOT support Trump), but it’s now clear he’s an out-and-out demagogue by trying to tar as “phonies” those who criticize his flip-flopping and question his sincerity, while laughably claiming his obvious flip-flopping is a “treat to the establishment” ... no, JD, with statements like that, it’s clear that you ARE the establishment! the RINO establishment!
Ohio, please, please, please do NOT elect this guy as your very own Romney ... one Romney is one too many already as it is ..

one of the worst movies, ever ... i couldn’t watch it ... kept trying to skip the bad parts and there was nothing left to watch ... the movie looked like the editor was blitzed on crack cocaine the entire time he spliced it together ...
