James K. Kallstrom, an FBI agent who became a familiar presence on the nightly news as chief of the criminal investigation into the crash of TWA Flight 800 off the coast of Long Island in 1996, a confounding disaster first suspected to be an act of terrorism but ultimately attributed to a fuel tank explosion, died July 3 at his home in Fairfield, Conn. He was 78.
He had a rare cancer of the blood, said his wife, Susan Kallstrom.

I suppose it’s too much too hope that he wrote something to be released after his death...
Can't really make that judgement, our government covers so much up it's not funny. I'd say this is just one of many big cover-ups.

Mr. Kallstrom characterized Trump as a “patriot” and denounced Hillary Clinton, his 2016 Democratic opponent, and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, as a “crime family, basically.”
Referring to the investigation led by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, a widely respected former FBI director, into allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 election, Mr. Kallstrom asserted on Fox News in 2018 that “it’s crystal clear that there’s a cabal, a far-reaching cabal, way beyond the bureau, into the intelligence community . . . into the National Security Council . . . into all these peripheral people, putting this thing together, this fraud against Trump.”

Whatever his “sins” regarding TWA, his eyes have been ‘open’ recently & he’s spoken the truth. RIP Mr. Kallstrom.
I’ve always enjoyed his appearances on television. Seemed like a good guy.
Most here can say whatever you wish with your opinions of his investigations but he was better than most in the Bureau. The Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation is a top notch 5 star foundation he helped build....jmho
A master pf giving press conferences and saying absolutely nothing.
I was working in NY City when that happened and both the Post and the News had pictures from partygoers on Long Island showing the rocket going up.
These were accidental pictures taken as the partiers were taking photos of their friends. There must have been at least a dozen of these form different places on Long Island.
The “official” answer was that these were photos of the flaming fuel dropping down from the airplane.
Jim Kallstrom was an honest man. There were over 150 Federal agents and other investigators on the case. It was said that Kallstrom was so straight that he could not hide an ice cube in the snow. In any cae they simply did not find conclusive evidence to determine that the flight was indeed sabotaged. That is not to say however that there might have been something that was overlooked.
The missile streaking up was just a coincidence.
Guilt is a heck of a thing.
That whole agency is anti American.
