'Lost All the Goodwill of 20 Years': Afghan Forces React to Biden's Bagram Withdrawal

After nearly two decades of America's presence at Bagram Airfield, U.S. forces apparently turned off the lights and left under the cover of night, all without notifying the Afghan forces left behind. The Afghan commander "discovered the Americans’ departure more than two hours after they left," according to new reporting from the Associated Press based on conversations with members of Afghan security forces.

The Pentagon confirmed Friday that the last U.S. forces had left Bagram Airfield north of Kabul, Afghanistan, but days later we're getting a more complete picture of America's departure that marked a major milestone in President Biden's withdrawal plan.

In the immediate aftermath of American forces' departure, looters descended and "ransacked barrack after barrack and rummaged through giant storage tents" on the base that for years was the launching point for attacks on al-Qaida targets. Afghan forces were eventually able to clear the looters and resecure the base after America's surprise withdrawal.

One Afghan soldier at Bagram told the AP that "in one night, they lost all the goodwill of 20 years by leaving the way they did, in the night, without telling the Afghan soldiers who were outside patrolling the area."

Another told of how, "within 20 minutes of the U.S.’s silent departure on Friday, the electricity was shut down and the base was plunged into darkness... like a signal to the looters."

After 20 years of death and disabling America's youth yet again for what? Then again, with the current flag officers and the assclowns on the JCOS maybe the Afghanis are better off without us. Sorry folks. Not about winning any longer. Thanks to all that sacrificed their time and efforts, lives and limbs in the middle east debacle. Some folks appreciate your efforts.

While I don’t care much about Afghanistan, pulling out like this is a rotten thing to do. Not everyone there hates us and I’m sure many wanted us to succeed. Those few that truly helped us didn’t deserve to be treated like that.

We could send the JCOS to Haiti.

Yes, the bucks stops at the Oval Office. But it’s unlikely that Biden directly ordered that. So I wonder who did.

Most likely whine is that the afghans are going to miss the AFN the US lavished on the population.

Well, one thing is for sure. The Taliban will butcher those Afghanis who allied themselves with us. There won’t be any “re-education camps” like the communists set up after Saigon fell.

The Biden Admin is sabotaging the Afghan government and handing the country and the weapons we left behind to the Taliban.

The hidden hand of Obama at work.

We never should have sent the regular army in to take residence.

Rumsfeld had the right approach - use American special forces as advisors to lead Afghans themselves against the Taliban and to use our military clout to keep the Pakistani ISI backed Jihadi out of the country

I fear for any non-military Americans still in Afghanistan. That includes our Embassy. I can’t but help think that elements of the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, etc. would love to attack it and either butcher everyone in it or hold them all hostage.

And you can bet Turkey and Iran are working right now on getting as many Afghani refugees to Europe, and of course many will wind up here.

Gen Milley is on watch, but he is too busy pushing CRT indoctrination and trying to understand white rage.

His feckless performance in Afghanistan is pretty much the best justification for white, black, brown , red and yellow rage I can think of. Next thing you know, Milley will be importing Taliban advisors to train and lead Antifa

I have been onboard with taking our forces out of Afghanistan for some time, but...not like this.

This is as bad as the way we left South Vietnam and the people who helped us hanging with their asses in the wind.

Another shameful black mark on our country, and it didn’t have to be this way.
