Eric Adams appeared on the brink of winning the city’s Democratic mayoral race on Tuesday after a pivotal release of absentee ballot results placed him at the top of the pack by a razor-thin margin over Kathryn Garcia.
The Brooklyn borough president led Garcia by just 8,426 ballots after more than 120,000 newly counted absentee ballots were added to the unofficial Board of Elections tally.
The blue checks on Twatter are literally losing it right now. They ALL thought Garcia was a lock.
Any of these names conservatives? Who is a Democrat? I have no idea who these people are and the article doesn’t say/
They’re all Democrats, it’s the primary.
If Adams wins, it could be a plus. He’s probably less corrupt than the administration and he could go a ways to cleaning up some of the corruption.
I don’t know if I can trust him to have changed his mind from his statements in the late-90’s to mid 2000’s.
They are all Dems. Dems outnumber the GOP 6 to 1 in NYC. Adams is not remotely conservative. But he’s a former cop. He is as close as NYC will get to a conservative.
Bwahahahahahahaha! In NYC? Bwahahaha, that's a good one.
Twitter bluechecks are delusional because the number one issue among voters in New York City is crime. If Garcia won then I can honestly see Curtis Silwa having a chance because nobody wants to go back to 1970s New York.
Not so fast. He lives in NJ and the lawyers haven’t jumped in yet.
>> newly counted absentee ballots
It’s an attack on Democracy to challenge the results even in a Democrat Primary, idn’t it?
“Pivotal release of absentee ballots”.
They were all Democrats. Adams was probably the least bad of the Democrats.
Garcia was a snobbish elitist Manhattan swine. (Think Hillary Klintoon) and had the NY Slimes endorsement.
Wiley was the AOC/Squad candidate.
Both Garcia and Wiley wanted to defund the police in NYC.
Adams does not.
Adams would be an improvement over De Blasio, but he is still a rat. He did run on a “law and order” platform.
He actually led the election day vote by a much wider margin. Garcia narrowed the gap with the Absentees. The Twatter crowd was counting on the absentees to put her over the top.
The winner of the Democrat primary is in effect the new mayor.
The Republicans are such a political minority that the general election is essentially a formality.
Adams is probably the best of the eight Democrats, but that’s not saying a lot.
And he’ll be undermined by people like the new soon-to-be Manhattan DA.
Hey, thank you😊 informative post appreciated.
Adams, a former NYC cop, is the best of a sorry lot.
He never paid his taxes on his income properties, but he’s a democrat, and that is the place we find ourselves at these days.
It doesn’t matter who wins. The new Manhattan DA is pro-criminal so whoever wins will continue De Blasio policies.
The reason is simple. A ten-year old child can understand a regular vote. Person with the most votes wins. If the rules say it must be a majority, have a run-off vote. Person with the most votes wins.
On my good days, I’m not an excessively stupid man. I have read how ranked-choice voting is supposed to work, and I confess, I could and cannot explain it to someone who had never heard of it. I do know that someone who has the most votes initially can end up losing an election.
A six-word sentence explains the first, I expect it takes paragraphs to explain the latter.
