After troops exit, safety of US Embassy in Kabul top concern

As the end to America’s “forever war” rapidly approaches, the U.S. Embassy and other diplomatic missions in Kabul are watching a worsening security situation and looking at how to respond.

In the countryside, districts are falling to the Taliban in rapid succession. America’s warlord allies are re-arming their militias, which have a violent history, raising the specter of another civil war once the U.S. withdrawal is finished, expected in August.

What arrogance to think the US occupation of Afghanistan would end up differently than the British and Soviets.

My opinion this whole debacle is an indictment of our whole ruling class. Amazing all these supposedly smart people with the Ivy League degrees did not learn from the British and Soviet experience.

Right. When the end comes in Kabul, it will probably come fast. One day there’s an Afghani policeman standing at the embassy’s front gate. The next day the policeman is gone, and there are swarms of Taliban climbing over the walls.

I’d say put an iPad at the embassy’s front door. If anyone wants to talk to us, they can Skype us.

Twenty years of war and it had zero impact. Back to right where it was in 2001. The only lasting change is measured the lives of our soldiers lost and wrecked in this pointless exercise.

Provide scattered dumps of weapons and ammo.
Sit back and watch the Afghanis slaughter each other over the remaining poppy fields...
